Our Meals site in Wigan is looking to recruit a Buyer. The site produces a range of fresh chilled ready meals for the major retailers, employing approximately 1200 people.

The site concentrates on 3 main core product sectors, Bowl Salads, Potato Products and Fresh Produce Ready Meals. ​The Meals Wigan site is set to become a Centre of Excellence for Vegetables at Bakkavor making it a very exciting time to join.

Your responsibilities as Buyer are to:

* Understand the requirements of the business’ internal and external customers and ensure these will be delivered through affective alignment with the sourcing plans of the designated Group Buyers.

* Procure the business material requirements in line with the Group’s sourcing plans unless exceptionally agreed otherwise by the designated Group Buyer and appropriate PLT representative. Proactively support the implementation of agreed Group contracts within the business unit.

* Attain expert knowledge for materials which you have been allocated Group Procurement responsibility and ensure salient information is communicated efficiently to all interested parties. Use this expert knowledge to develop robust sourcing plans that account for risks and opportunities whilst delivering best value for Bakkavor.

* Ensure the Group’s forecast assumptions are incorporated in to the business’ cost price forecast providing any necessary translation. For Group Procurement responsibilities provide considered best estimate forecasts in line with the Group timetable (updated as necessary) explaining any price movement assumptions.

* Using a formalised risk assessment process, identify potential supply issues and take appropriate action to avoid their occurrence. Escalate issues to appropriate level when necessary and ensure that suitable supply agreements are in place.

* Ensure that Procurement systems and processes are effectively utilised and maintained. Data input must be accurate and changes implemented on time to ensure efficient robust reporting and correct supplier payment.

* Input into the development of the Procurement Improvement Plan (PIP) and take ownership for the delivery of assigned initiatives both locally and within the wider Group businesses when related to Group Procurement responsibility.

* Measure supplier performance against agreed criteria and where sub-standard performance cannot be rectified locally escalate to the relevant Group Buyer.

* Work with NPD, Technical, production and planning to ensure robust NPD processes are followed for launches. Maintain the business preferred supplier list for use by the NPD team and manage the introduction of new suppliers/materials so as to avoid un-necessary proliferation within the business.

* Have an appreciation of the principles of technical food risk and at times of risk alerts work closely under the guidance of the Technical function to co-ordinate with suppliers and manage situations with effective urgency.

The ideal candidate will have:

* Experience in a Buying or Sales role ideally within food ingredients

* Passionate about Buying and strong relationship building skills

In return you will receive a salary £30,000 - £35,000 depending upon experience, pension, healthcare, bonus as well as great career progression and development opportunities
