MPI have a requirement for a Simulator/Training Device Technician to work at RAF Waddington, Lincolnshire.
This is a contract role for approx 6 months
Applicants must be security cleared to SC level at time of application
Rate of pay is £27.40 per hour Ltd Company or £21.10 PAYE
The following shifts are worked to support 12 hours of provision
Team one - 07:00 - 15:30
Team two - 10:30 - 19:00
Located within the Air Battle-space Training Centre (ABTC) at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire, the Distributed Synthetic Air Land Training facility provides a training capability for UK Air, Land and Maritime force elements in National and Coalition synthetic environments focusing on Team, Collective, Joint and Combined operations. The BDUK team provide maintenance and support to the DSALT training systems. The successful candidate will join the team of technicians who support the DSALT programme.
The successful candidate will:
• Start up and configure Training systems for Daily use.
• Operate After Action Review software during briefings following requests from the Operations staff trainer.
• Repair, test, install, configure, upgrade and assist in the modification of training components, devices, hardware and software.
• Conduct functional tests of training device systems and monitor fault diagnostic systems.
• Participate with external agencies in the conduct of Acceptance Test Procedures and Manual Test Guides.
• Assist engineers in troubleshooting systems and support equipment.
• Assist the on site Systems administrator with some server configuration tasks.
Key responsibilities include:
• Accomplishes system PC initialization and configuration, system operation, rapid fault diagnosis and correction and system shutdown
• Performs corrective actions and preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, installations and authorised modifications on hardware and software to resolve technical, design, quality, operational and other issues with training devices. Repair, maintenance, reconfiguration, and modification of all other electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems
• Routine maintenance of hardware and software
• Provides daily operation and/or support for the DSALT training simulation to include liaison with MoD and civilian instructional staff in exercise planning, setup of exercises, and operating training devices and support equipment
• Assists in monitoring and ensuring compliance with data and physical security instructions
• Actively participate in reconfiguration and relocation of major system elements, requiring manual handling and lifting, and limited working at height
Education & Experience
The successful candidate should have experience in the following areas:
• Previous military experience would be beneficial, but is not essential.
Essential:
• Integrated Computer Systems
• Understand Networked computer systems and network fault finding
• Maintenance of various PC hardware including virtual computer systems
• Configuration changes to computer systems using utility software
• Experience in the use of both mission planning and computer generated forces systems in a synthetic environment including MAK VR-Forces
• MUST HOLD SC CLEARANCE
Desirable:
• Experience of Linux systems
• Experience with Server systems using windows 7 and Server 2012
• At least 3 years experience with Simulation and training device configuration and maintenance.
• Experience in Server 2012 Administration would be beneficial
Problem Solving:
• Develops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity. Refers to practices and procedures for guidance.
Discretion:
• Requires no instruction for routine work and general instructions for new lines of work or special assignments; supervision is limited. Participates in determining details of assignments to accomplish a wide range of objectives. Plans, schedules, and arranges own activities. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.
Liaison:
• Interacts frequently with internal and external personnel and customers. Obtains or provides information on important or sensitive organization matters
