Our client an academy trust based in the Folkestone area has asked us to help recruit a Trust Governance and Legal Compliance Officer to commence work on a temporary to permanent basis, working 3 or 4 days per week term time only.

This is an opportunity to work in a challenging and rewarding role with an academy trust whose mission is to set a new standard in non-selective education, empowering pupils to succeed.

* The core purpose of this role is to serve as Clerk and legal advisor to the Trust. Specifically, the post holder will be responsible for ensuring best practice in terms of governance is in operation at the Trust and to drive and advise on and legal compliance to those holding governance and/or senior positions at the Trust. The Governance and Legal Officer will work to the Trust Board and with the central team as well as with Academy Principals.

* In addition to oversight of governance and ensuring legal compliance the post-holder will fulfil related house-keeping obligations for the Trust, its Board and Committees, and provide administrative and secretarial support to the Directors and Governors of the Multi-Academy Trust

Relevant Qualifications and Experience:

* Literacy in spoken and written form; including experienced and capable using Word, Excel, Outlook to a high level of competency

* Good standard of general education, ideally to degree level

* NVQ 4 (or equivalent) in Legal or Business Management, relevant post graduate level professional qualification at level 5+ or other relevant area of equivalent study

* Member (or eligible for membership) of the Institute of Company Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) or Institute of Administrative Management, or similar recognised accrediting organisation, or legal or paralegal qualification/s

* Completion of the National Training Programme for Solicitors or Clerks

* Effective delivery of compliant policies and procedures

* Establishing and maintaining effective quality assurance processes and systems

* Senior level experience including from other environments or fields relevant to the Company Secretarial work

* An understanding of the role of governance in education

* Track record of leading on policy and procedure, and seeking suitable reliable advice

The client are offering a competitive salary of £30,000 (pro rata to part-time and term time only).

Equivalent hourly pay rate while working on temporary basis will be £15.38.

The Successful applicant will also be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
