Job Title:Class Teacher

Responsibilities/Duties The post holder is responsible:-
To the Director of Education and Life Long Learning for her / his teaching duties and responsibilities and for teaching tasks.
To uphold and work towards the school’s vision and aims, supporting the school ethos and mission.
For liaison with special needs support services and other outside agencies as appropriate.
For the supervision of the work of Autism Practitioners linked to his / her class.
For taking appropriate responsibility for one’s own health, safety and welfare and the health and safety of students, visitors and work colleagues in accordance with the requirements of legislation and locally adopted policies; including taking responsibility for raising concerns with an appropriate manager.
Have responsibility for supporting school’s curriculum areas
Work with therapeutic teams on site Professional Skills
To teach and engage young people in learning through exciting and challenging lessons.
To be ambitious for each young person.
To engage with professional development relevant to the school’s outcomes.
To be creative in the lessons offered to each young person and to embrace ‘Learning Outdoors’
To ensure that all young people have aspirational goals set and through your own skills demonstrate the Learning Pathway
Act as a good role model in terms of professional appearance, conduct, punctuality and attendance.
To contribute to the planning and implementation of the School Development Plan
To contribute to the development and review of school policies and then to uphold and work within the policies as agreed.
To plan the curriculum, with colleagues, in line with school policy, to secure high quality learning for the students.
To deliver the curriculum through a range of lessons designed to stimulate and motivate students’ learning ensuring meaning for each learner.
To establish effective working relationships with others and embrace the strong team work ethos
To ensure pupils acquire skills and knowledge that support them in reaching their full potential.
To be active in supporting the growth of the school to offer the young people different and varied opportunities. Key tasks:
Supporting pupils in accordance with the Mission of the School including Prior Approach, OFSTED, the Waking Day Curriculum, School policies and procedures to ensure the pupils are educated and cared for appropriately
To prepare Individual Learning Plans for each pupil in conjunction with the therapy team
To assess students so that Individual Learning Plans can be developed, ensuring that each young person receives a broad and balanced curriculum that meets their individual needs and making sure that the whole class receive a balanced curriculum each week.
To monitor and record Individual Learning Plans and maintain Students Records.
To lead the class staff team ensuring that they are involved in the planning of all class activities and are aware of the class routine
To write reports and attend annual reviews for pupils within your classroom
To ensure that each school day is planned in advance using a daily planning sheet, so that all staff within the class understand what they will be doing at all times during the day, and the equipment in the room prepared for the students' arrival
To ensure that a responsible person is left in charge of the class/lesson if he/she leaves it during the school day.
To ensure that work tasks/materials are prepared in advance of requirements to prevent valuable teaching time from being used for this activity.
To liaise with:- Colleagues, parents; therapists; stakeholders; and outside agencies
To write Risk Assessments for all activities either in school or offsite.
To ensure that the classroom equipment provides a stimulating environment for all the students irrespective of ability.To ensure that the classroom is tidy, defects are reported, displays are changed regularly, kept in good order and are relevant.
To ensure that all equipment is put away and the classroom tidy at the end of the day to facilitate cleaning.
To participate in the School Performance Management.
To have knowledge of the School’s Health and Safety policies and always follow set procedures and guidelines.
Liaise/work closely with Home Manager in the best interests of the young person. Personal knowledge
To know how to be able to build up relationships with students with autism
To know how to challenge young people effectively
To be able to demonstrate learning for all young people or be able to problem solve to ensure effective progress Personal Responsibilities
To ensure professional conduct and uphold positive values within the organisation
To safeguard and promote the wellbeing of each young person

Specification Quality Essential Desirable Qualifications;
Qualified Teacher Status
SEN qualifications.

Experience of children with severe learning difficulties and complex behaviours Experience of SEN Experience of working within a team Experience of autism.Have excellent communication skills both verbal and written Good management, team skills Be proficient at ICT Become a TEACCH practitioner Physical Physically fit – running, walking etc (with students) Lifestyle Characteristics Ability to work Bank and Public Holidays.
