Help us continue to build one of Europe’s largest cardiovascular centres! This post is an exciting opportunity to work as a highly specialised adult critical care physiotherapist within our brand new, state of the art cardiovascular centre at St Bartholomew’s Hospital.

We are seeking a dedicated, innovative and highly skilled inpatient respiratory physiotherapist (FTC 12 months, at Band 7 level for 37.5 hours pw) to join our large therapy team and be a part of a world class centre.

The Barts Heart Centre comprises of 56 critical care beds, a 40 bedded CCU, and a great variety of cardiovascular, respiratory and cancer patients from grown-up congenital heart disorders, cardio-thoracic, heart failure and cardiology to early electrophysiology & heart attack patients.

North and East London has some of the best cardiovascular experts in the country. Clinicians from Barts Health NHS Trust, University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) and further afield are working together to create a single specialist centre for cardiovascular disease to cover all our local communities. You will be joining us at an incredibly exciting time, as we realise a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to improve services for today’s patients and future generations and create a world class cardiovascular service.

Due to maternity leave we are looking for a Band 7, or experienced B6 looking for an acting up opportunity to join our team for 12 months. We are looking for someone with a good level of clinical experience in: critical care; ventilation; non-invasive respiratory support adjuncts; cardiology; cardio-thoracic surgery; acute rehabilitation / and neurology. Advanced knowledge of ventilation weaning, respiratory and NIV skills will be required in order to take a lead role, with other senior clinicians, in the day to day management of the 56 bedded critical care unit. 7 day working is in place, and you would help lead and plan the 7 day cover together with the emergency respiratory on-call service.

You will be expected to deliver high quality care within the framework of a multi-disciplinary team.

We will invest in competency based pathways, specialist courses, post graduate study, development of teaching and coaching skills to create a progressive workforce equipped to provide our specialist service. Your knowledge base will be reaffirmed as you experience the different specialties, from critical care areas caring for patients following cardiac surgery, GUCH surgery, minimally invasive valve replacements to complex cardiology patients admitted through an expanded Heart Attack Centre. The unit also provides support for patients with respiratory conditions including deteriorating cancer patients and respiratory / cystic fibrosis as well as supporting other patients in multi organ failure.
