Corporate/Venture Capital Counsel/Partner
Our client is an international law firm in London that has plans to strategically grow its London office in a number of practice areas. It has already established a profitable and rated finance/disputes practice in recent years focussing on its core areas of project and infrastructure finance, structured finance, general syndicated and bi-lateral lending, mezzanine finance, trade and commodities finance and receivables finance. They also have a strong disputes practice covering High Court litigation and International Arbitration with some notable specialist areas.
The partners in London have all come from large international law firm backgrounds and have expertise in numerous established and emerging/frontier markets including Israel, Russia/CIS, sub-Sahara Africa, Maghreb, the Middle East, Asia, Israel and Latin America. They also have strong links in Europe to Italy, France and Spain.
Their clients include inter-alia financial institutions, trade banks, import/export banks, funds, corporate borrowers, VC companies, private equity houses, hi-tech companies, natural resources companies, smaller emerging market banks and trustees.
The firm's Executive Committee has taken the decision as a part of its core strategy to broaden and expand its London offering. As a result, they are committed to hiring a senior solicitor at counsel or partner level to work closely with lawyers in their New York office to capitalise on the opportunities for deal flow into London from existing clients in sectors to include fin tech, healthcare, bio-tech and life sciences, E-Commerce, renewable energy etc.
The firm's US offices are benefitting significantly from referral work from corporate and capital markets work originated directly from jurisdictions where they have very strong connections such as Tel Aviv. Israel has the highest number of start-up companies in the world and a stellar 2017 which was a record for deal volumes is expected to be bettered in 2018. The Tel Aviv connection handles transactional work on behalf of high growth companies in sectors such as cybersecurity, technology and fin tech. They also represent companies that have achieved significant early/mid-stage growth and are now ready for IPO. They will typically list them on NSDAQ.
The successful candidate will have a key role in building the London practice by advising start-up accelerators, VCs, Family Offices, angel investors, UHNW and HNW private clients who are active in the aforementioned high growth sectors.
The range of experience required is likely to include broad corporate and commercial experience including acquisitions and disposals, JVs, corporate and fund structuring.
You will likely have your own network of contacts to bring to the firm although there is no need for candidates to have a full self-financing business case.
