Are you passionate about working with cutting edge technology, and self-motivated to deliver exciting new capabilities? Are you an experienced Java developer who likes a challenge and is keen to keep your skills current and even cross train into new technologies?

As an experienced Java Developer in BAE Systems AI, you'll be working with one of our National Security customers to enhance and maintain existing products, and will be involved in building exciting new capabilities. The work will be fast paced and at times challenging, but the benefits of the work will be tangible and real. You will be exposed to new approaches, new technology, and new ideas, so a willingness to step out of your comfort zone is a must.

In BAE Systems AI we believe in high performing agile teams. An ability to be a team player, be self-motivated, happy taking on responsibility, and a desire for team/self improvement are key attributes for success. Not only will you and your team be directly making a huge impact upon the systems you work on, you'll be doing it for an organisation that makes a huge impact on the security of the UK.

You will have experience in one or more of the following (or a desire to learn it):

  • Software development in languages like C++, C#, Java, Python or JavaScript
  • Familiarisation with database technologies such as SQL, Elastic or Mongo
  • Familiarisation with automation test frameworks such as Selenium
  • Know your way around Linux
  • Use of deployment tools such as Ansible, chef or Puppet
  • Experience of working in an Agile scrum team, and the tooling that supports it, e.g. Jira
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting issues with systems in development
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills across different levels of the stack

It would be great if you also had experience in some of these, but if not we'll help you with them:

  • Experience with container management and micro-services architectures such as Docker
  • Experience extending and improving Open Source Software
  • Experience leading teams of engineers
  • Awareness and insight into technology trends to adopt new cutting edge tools
