Assistant Accountant – Finance Centre, BMW Sunderland

The Role

Perform assigned Finance Centre nominal ledger transaction processing activities in a timely and accurate manner and well as approval of divisional payments.



·Balance sheet account maintenance and reconciliation including a share of the following key reconciliations:

* Accrued and Deferred Income Calculations and Reconciliations back to Credit Notes, leasing with Divisional Management Team, and chasing anomalies with site and BMW/Mini

* Divisional Vehicles Stock including Reconciliation to BMW/MINI statements and month end journal adjustments as required.

* Divisional Vehicle Creditor Balances reconciled to BMW/Mini Statement and investigation of anomalies / aged balances

* Divisional and Head Office Bank Reconciliation

* Divisional Accruals and Prepayments for all sites

* Suspense account monitoring and investigation of imbalances Preparation and posting of journals

* Housekeeping and ownership of critical sections of sales & purchase ledgers e.g. VSB purchase ledger & intercompany sales and purchase ledger

* Assisting with VAT return preparation and analysis every quarter & periodic VAT adjustments and reports

Bank Reconciliation

* Support assistant accountants in the review of automated bank reconciliation anomalies for both BMW/MINI division and head office bank accounts

* Liaise with site managers over resolution of anomalies as required

* Review reconciliation for aged items and investigate / clear as necessary as well as associated suspense accounts


* Monthly Balance Sheet Accounts pack completion, following Reconciliations, Accrued/Deferred Income, Accruals and Prepayments posted into Divisional Accounts

* Produce Weekly Report to site management on key financial balances including Bad Debt Provision, Internal write offs, Bank Reconciliation.


* Daily Approval of all Site and Head Office Sundry Payments in compliance with policy to strict deadlines

* Approval of Purchase Ledger Payment Runs for BMW/MINI division and Head Office on weekly basis to strict deadlines

* Liaise with Sales ledger, Purchase ledger, Payments and Robotic Processing teams as necessary

* Liaise with Dealership Accountants with accounting and payment queries and Month End Accounts production

* Contribute to process improvement initiatives

Skills & Experience Required

To be a success in this role, you will have;

* Experience of working in a similar role

* Experience of working in a high volume transaction environment desired

* Advanced Excel skills with experience of producing large transactional reconciliations essential

* Good written and verbal communication skills

* High level of accuracy and attention to detail essential

* Ability to work with and understand high volumes of data

* Process orientated mindset

* Ability to meet deadlines and to work autonomously and as part of a team

* Kerridge/Autoline automotive retail accounts package knowledge preferable but not essential

* 3 years accounting department experience essential and experience in automotive retail preferable

* Part qualified accountant or AAT qualification preferred
