The Role

We’re looking for someone to assist, and deputise as appropriate for the Head of Internal Communications to further develop and drive the internal communications strategy across the business, continuing to challenge the status quo, and educate the business on best practice in communications strategy and delivery.

Reporting to the Head of Internal Communications, this role will strategically develop and direct the internal communications for agreed business and functional areas of the business. This is a varied role demanding a flexible and adaptable approach.

The candidate will have significant experience of internal and change communication, driving employee engagement and brand advocacy. They will combine the ability to give excellent strategic communication advice and senior stakeholder management with the knowledge and enthusiasm for delivering the tactics.

This role has one direct report and is an integral part of the Corporate Affairs team.

* Own and continuously develop a communications strategy and plan for agreed dedicated business areas with the aim of:

* engaging employees in those areas with the business strategy and plans

* Communicate the key strategic objectives and successes within and outside of those business areas.

* Enabling colleagues to engage with and understand their role in delivering our strategic priorities.

* Increasing awareness of and promoting those areas to the wider business.

* Reinforcing the One Bank culture and making our people feel positively connected to it.

* Work with the Corporate Affairs team to align key functional messages with our corporate vision and strategy, and build bank-wide awareness of those business areas and how they underpin the business.

* Build and develop a strong relationship with the appropriate MD and/or Exec Director and their senior leadership team to facilitate the delivery of excellent communications across and beyond the business areas.

* Drive the leadership communications agenda in the dedicated business areas, devising impactful plans which informs and supports their senior leadership population.

* Develop an employee communications dashboard for their business areas (aligned to the corporate model), highlighting the effectiveness of the employee communications strategy.

* Deliver relevant, clear and engaging communications across all relevant channels.

* Manage and develop a range of communication channels for business areas, and continually seek and appraise creative and exciting new ways to communicate messages. Ensure alignment to the corporate channels.

* Manage the end-to-end delivery of face-to-face events identified in the business areas communications plan. Where necessary, manage external agencies and suppliers to deliver within agreed budget.

* Deputise for and closely support the Head of Internal Communications with managing the team and assisting in the implementation of the Corporate Affairs & Internal Communications strategy.

* Be fully prepared to be an integral part of Corporate Affairs incident communications team (on call 24/7). Work with other members of the Corporate Affairs team to ensure there is an appropriate crisis communications process in place for Business Finance.

* Responsible for advising our senior stakeholders in the Bank on the appropriate communications to be undertaken and drafting relevant materials in the event of an incident.

* Educate stakeholders about the value of good practice internal communication and act as an ambassador for Corporate Affairs.

The Person

* Ability to combine strategic thinking with a demonstrable track record in successful implementation.

* Excellent knowledge of employee communications planning and change management approaches.

* Able to cultivate and maintain good working relationships and manage demanding and challenging clients to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. Also, able to provide critical feedback and handle sensitive issues when needed. Has the gravitas and experience to give highly credible advice and inspire confidence at all levels up to and including Executive team and can provide compelling and well thought out solutions to complex problems.

* Excellent writing, editorial and presentation skills.

* Able to identify craft and deliver key messages, narratives and information in succinct and engaging ways within the internal tone of voice.

* Strong technical knowledge of key communication channels and content including intranet, print, film, digital and social media.

* Events management – knows how to plan and execute events and interventions that deliver on organisational objectives and drive engagement.

* Good understanding of external communications and financial calendar activity and evidence of producing integrated impactful communications strategies.

* Experience of managing people would be an asset.

* A sound understanding of our business and wider industry issues, or the ability to rapidly acquire it.

* Ability to generate and embed creative ideas that add value.
