Dumfries and Galloway is seeking to appoint a dynamic leader with vision and a passion for learning. This post provides an excellent opportunity to be innovative in encouraging our culture of sharing and learning through offering the successful candidate the opportunity to lead learning across the schools in Canonbie Primary and the all-through school at Langholm Academy for a period of up to 18 months. You will have proven leadership qualities within a primary and/ or secondary setting and be committed to very high standards of achievement. This is an exciting role within a dynamic school community which has high aspirations for all.

Langholm Cluster combines Canonbie Primary and Nursery, Langholm Primary and Nursery and Langholm Academy and serves the area of Eskdale in Dumfries and Galloway. The area is adjacent to the Scottish Borders and is well served by good transport links. The current combined school roll is 490. The schools benefit from well-established Parent Councils who are supportive of the schools and work collaboratively to ensure they are an integral part of their communities. The current management structure consists of a Headteacher, two Secondary Depute Headteachers, two Primary Depute Headteachers and a School Support Manager. Langholm Primary School was recently re-built has an extensive campus and underwent major refurbishment, with additional development of the campus, in 2017. The school has extensive playing fields and sports facilities integrated within the campus.

The main local industries are agriculture, forestry and tourism and good housing is affordable.

Applicants are required to be fully registered in primary and/ or secondary education with the General Teaching Council of Scotland (GTCS), Clerwood House, 96 Clermiston Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6UT.
This post considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/ or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates are required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they are resident.

This is a temporary post for up to one year.

This post may be suitable for secondment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post.
