Teacher Religious Education (7/11272)
Kirkcudbright Academy
Unpromoted Teacher Scale £27,438 - £36,480

Kirkcudbright Academy is a vibrant and forward looking school that is aiming to provide the best possible future for all our pupils. We are seeking to appoint a full time permanent Religious Education teacher to join us this session.

Kirkcudbright Academy was founded in 1582 and is housed in a range of historic and modern buildings adjacent to a community swimming pool and squash court. The grounds consist of pleasant lawns and woodland on the Dee estuary close to conservation area and artists' colony. Kirkcudbright itself is a fishing town on the Solway coast and is a popular destination for tourists. It is close to Dumfries, which is on the main arterial route to ferry ports for Northern Ireland.

Pupils are able to benefit from extra-curricular clubs and associations such as theatre productions, Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, Eco Schools Group and debating. Sporting activities on offer include football, basketball, netball, rugby, swimming, gymnastics and show-jumping. Students also take part in community outreach projects from Secondary 1, and charity fundraising is particularly important to those pupils in Secondary 6.

Dumfries and Galloway’s approach to education looks to combine the traditional values, ethos and atmosphere of this unique corner of Scotland with fresh 21st Century thinking. We are seeking to appoint creative teachers with vision and a passion for learning. This post represents an excellent opportunity to be innovative in developing our culture of sharing and learning.

Applicants for teaching posts must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland, Clerwood House, 96 Clermiston Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6UT in the appropriate sector.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
