Position title:

Community Development / Field Worker

Reports to:

Director, UK Community Development

Location:

Muslim Hands, 148 - 164 Gregory Boulevard, Gregory House, Nottingham, NG7 5JE

Hours of Work:

Full-time, 35 hours per week

Salary guideline:

Up to £25,000 (£21,000 - £25,0000) dependant on experience

Terms of Employment:

ONE Year Fixed term contract (with a 6-Month Probationary Period)

Overview:

Muslim Hands is a UK based international relief organisation working in over 40 countries worldwide. The Head Office in Nottingham and a fundraising team in Whitechapel London; occasional travel between the two locations. Muslim Hands UK is seeking an enthusiastic and passionate individual to support our work around UK Projects through an exciting period of growth and change as we have ambitious plans to grow our activities within this area by 2020.

Main purpose of the Role:

Our Community Development Department funds and works with Partner Agencies to alleviate the hardships within deprived sections of our society. The Postholder will work within the Community Development Department to monitor and evaluate projects funded by Muslim Hands in the United Kingdom. The Postholder is required to work with partner agencies, to identify and support responses to the impact of poverty alleviation, exploitation and exclusion for deprived sections of British Society.

Essential Requirements:

  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Educated to degree level or holds relevant qualifications for the post
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Minimum Two years’ Experience of working on community development projects
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong partnerships and relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • Proactive and able to work flexibly, prioritising your own time effectively
  • Knowledge of issues affecting BAME and/or Muslim communities in the UK
  • Experience of working with both communities and senior executives
  • Experience of working with vulnerable/marginalised people
  • Willingness to travel nationwide and sometimes work in evenings or weekends
  • Full UK driver’s license and access to a car

Main responsibilities

  • Work closely with HM Prison services, voluntary sector providers and local community organisations and lead on the development of a delivery plan for the effective rehabilitation of ex-offenders and the most vulnerable member of society.
  • Being ambitious for Muslim Hands, develop and constantly revise service delivery channels and strategies for customer propositions to ensure they are highly customer-orientated, place high regard on the direct views of service users, and are reflective of agreed principles of the organisations Charitable ethos.
  • To keep informed of Government policy and national best practice and be pro-active in developing proposals for the continuous improvement of the service. This will include establishing and developing a culture that delivers results through organisational development and the use of effective communication.
  • To assist in developing effective working relationships with Senior Managers across Public Sector and equivalent senior officers in other partner agencies to develop interventions to combat the impact of poverty and deprivation.
  • To support projects and initiatives which empower young people, raise aspirations and promote community engagement.
  • To demonstrate strong communications skills in dealing effectively with the media, and experience of managing PR and reputation through a transformational change process; liaising with the department Director, Marketing and Communications team.
  • To assist and oversee effective processes for the management and monitoring of grant programmes, including the registration of voluntary and community organisations and screening of volunteers, the advice given to voluntary and community groups on available grants and resources.
  • To create Opportunities for the sharing of good practice in the field of poverty alleviation, empowerment and cohesion
  • To assist on any corporate or departmental projects or initiatives that are assigned to you by the department Director or immediate line manager.
  • To promote and adhere to all Muslim Hands’ Policies and Codes of Practices.
  • The post holder may be required to carry out any other duties as directed by a supervising officer.
  • To assist department Director with day to day running of the office.
