Our cient is well known corporate business with their Head Office based in Stevenage. We are supporting them recruit a Part Qualified, or QBE Assistant Accountant to start with them immediately on a temp to perm basis. You will be assisting the Senior Financial Accountant in ensuring that the business is complying with all relevant tax and related regulatory requirements, and be involved with the preparation of the businesses direct and indirect tax returns, month end reconciliations and general ledger accounting.

Main Duties and Responsibilities (not necessarily in priority order):

Coordinating, preparing and submitting the UK Intrastat, UK EU Sales list for goods and UK EU Sales list for services to HMRC to a strict deadline on a monthly basis.
Checking and analysing the statistical data, keeping up to date with the tax changes and making ongoing improvements to current reports for Intrastat and EU Sales Lists for goods and services.
To be responsible for all EU VAT Registrations and the submission of all EU VAT returns to a strict deadline based on the filing requirements for each country (11 separate EU territories as at June 2018).
To assist in the preparation of the UK VAT Return, including the preparation of the quarterly Reverse Charge calculation, the Annual Adjustment and Capital Goods Scheme.
To be responsible for reconciling the UK sales output reported to HMRC to the turnover reported in the financial accounts.
To assist with the reconciliation of the EU and UK VAT general ledger accounts to Statutory Returns.
To be responsible for completing, submitting and maintaining a record of CT61 for income tax deducted at source on author royalty payments and reconciling to the general ledger royalty tax account.

A Basic Disclosure check, which will be conducted at the start of employment and then every two years

Essential Criteria:

Knowledge and experience at an operational level of UK and EU VAT, Corporation Tax, Income Tax and general accounting principles and techniques
Ability to work with a minimum of supervision, planning own work to meet set monthly, quarterly and yearly deadlines, taking action as necessary to ensure all deadlines are met
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, when requesting/providing information to internal staff at all levels and external parties such as HMRC and other regulatory bodies, external auditors, customers and suppliers
Competence in MS Word, Excel and Outlook
Experience in the use of Financial Accounting Software
