Shift Managers (FMCG Food)

Situated at our facility in Haverhill, Cambridge, where we produce sliced and cooked meats for our retail multiple customers. The successful post-holder will co-ordinate the operational management of the department and optimise profitability in conjunction with short and long-term business strategies, goals and objectives. Lead and direct all processing functions and teams to fulfil all existing and potential customer requirements and expectations in terms of delivery, efficiency and quality, whilst also taking responsibility for controlling costs within agreed budgeted levels ensuring continuous improvement and reaching the required return on investment and strategic goals.

Shift pattern: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 6am-6pm with flexibility required

Key responsibilities:

  • To engage actively with other department managers to ensure the future success of the organisation, providing leadership and direction to the business
  • Plan, develop and implement operational strategies maximising efficiency of manufacturing within cost budget levels and compliance within company policies and statutory legislation, without compromising safety, hygiene, quality, quantity and cost
  • Lead, manage and provide guidance to the team ensuring individual objectives are aligned with the achievement of manufacturing objectives, specifications and standards
  • Develop, implement and monitor appropriate financial controls and operational KPI’s so that production continually meets or beats financial performance commitments
  • Recommend purchasing of capital equipment, changes in product design, facilities, methods and cost effective technology to maximise production
  • Drive a continuous improvement philosophy by utilizing GMP/TPS principles, tools and methodologies across all areas and aspects of the area to improve business performance
  • Create and lead the execution of projects to ensure consistent management of costs and eliminate gaps in meeting the overall manufacturing strategy
  • Ensure standards for product quality, hygiene, equipment, technical, and operator performance are strictly maintained and adhered to achieve customer satisfaction specifications and achieve optimal service levels within agreed cost budgets
  • Responsible for ensuring the process department is in full compliance with all health & safety & environment legislation and all staff within the function are fully trained to meet the requirements of the job being carried out
  • Manage the departmental budget.
  • Represent the operational function both internally and externally
  • Manage collaborative relationships with other members of the management team
  • Support the operations general manager in any other tasks and projects as requested and deputise in their absence

Experience:

  • Experience of working in a FMCG (ideally food) unionised environment
  • Experience of managing and developing a multifunctional team in a large manufacturing unit with over 150 staff
  • Meeting and dealing with customers and auditors
  • Knowledge of meat products and butchery skills, with an understanding of technical methods and best practice
  • A knowledge and experience of lean manufacturing
  • Computer literate
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and motivation skills
  • Problem solver
  • Degree in food science or equivalent
  • Demonstrate good communication skills
