REED Finance is engaged exclusively with this renowned organisation to recruit a Finance Business Partner to cover a period of secondment for 12 months.

The post holder will lead a team of finance professionals to play the role of trusted advisors to their portfolio of services.

Reporting to the Head of Finance you will support the Director of Corporate Resources and their team to deliver the department’s strategic and financial objectives. The portfolio of services that the Finance Business Partner will support is outlined below:

Commercial Services
The post holder will work with the Commercial team to maximise profitability and sustainability by understanding the true costs, margins and potential of the existing range of services (which includes school meals, catering, facilities management, printing, IT, HR and other professional services) and identifying and evaluating further commercial opportunities across the organsiation.

Asset Investment Fund
The Asset Investment Fund is a rapidly expanding portfolio to include financial investments, such as pooled property funds and loans, rental properties, property development schemes and investment land.
There are a number of projects in various stages of development that will need financial support on business cases, scenario planning, funding arrangements and regular financial updates.
The financial status of the overall portfolio will also require regular reporting and development to ensure ongoing positive financial performance, risk management and longer term forward planning.

Corporate Resources Department
The other element of the role is to provide full financial business partnering support to a department of centralised support services (including property buildings and facilities, ICT, HR, Finance, Customer Service Centre and Transformation services).
This involves ensuring that there are well defined efficient budgets “owned” by Managers; being the finance lead on projects and driving savings; as well as producing, communicating and improving financial reporting for all stakeholders.

Role responsibilities include;
• Support and challenge the businesses across all levels to drive improved performance in-line with strategic objectives. Exercise a challenging ambitious mind-set, determined to see issues/improvements through to resolution.
• Maintain regular dialogue with the heads of each service and the department management team. Facilitate and lead business discussion on financial performance through strategic analysis and independent guidance, actively contributing to commercial and strategic initiatives
• Lead on the creation and delivery of the Medium Term Financial Strategy, for the department, and play a key role in the managing departmental finance risks, linked to the delivery of the Medium Term Financial Strategy and the wider objectives
• Have sound understanding of the business, its operations and systems to ensure that financial advice and information provided supports effective decision making and departmental strategy formulation.
• Commercially aware and strategic in applying knowledge and understanding of changes in the external market and relating this to target setting and analysis of business plans.
• Ensure appropriate financial support is available for new projects and initiatives to contribute to idea evaluation, option formulation, issue resolution and post project appraisal.

Person Specification;

The role will suit a commercially astute qualified accountant, with significant experience of providing strategic financial advice and business partnering within a complex environment, focused on driving efficiencies and maximising returns from trading activity and major strategic investments or developments.
