What you need to know about the role

Responsible for the group’s tax compliance, planning and related accounting. You will have an expert knowledge of UK corporation tax, indirect taxes and an understanding of other tax regimes outside the UK relevant to British Steel. You will work very closely with the rest of finance and provide timely sound advice and challenge where there are tax implications of the business’s decision making.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

* Responsible for ensuring group adheres to necessary tax regulatory filing requirements

* Identifies, analyses and advises the business on the optimal tax efficiency of potential tax sensitive transactions

* Consistently identifies, assesses and mitigates risks/ exploits opportunities in line with the group’s tax strategy and governance policies to manage effective tax rates

* Responsible for producing and communicating the accounting tax position on a timely and accurate basis

* Able to consider and recommend appropriate strategic direction from a tax perspective for the future

* Promptly and accurately advises internal stakeholders on the impact of incoming legislative changes and effectively manages the impact on the business

* Implements tax planning efficiently and effectively, influencing and driving change within the business

* Researches, prepares and presents accurate and incisive technical reports to internal and external stakeholders tailoring appropriately for the end user

* Influences and negotiates with HMRC as necessary

* Provide constructive challenge to the management team where plans are unclear or pose financial risks, and proactively support them to find solutions

* Make a strong contribution to continuous improvement in the business unit and the wider finance team, identifying and implementing ways in which we can improve how effectively and efficiently we work.

* Ensuring business unit assets are safeguarded through effective authorisation and control procedures and ensuring adherence to group policies

* Manage or participate in ad hoc project activities as required

What we need to know about you

You will be a qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA) with a professional tax qualification.

A significant amount of post qualification specialist tax experience in industry of practice is essential.

You will have the ability to provide insight and commentary on financial information and a solid technical knowledge.

Communication is key to this role therefore you need to have a demonstrable ability and experience of providing advice and recommendations to all levels of the organisation.

A strong commercial acumen and business awareness is needed.
