Scope of Position:

· To ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for all children.

· To support, guide and lead a team of staff effectively.

· To work as part of a team in order to provide an enabling environment in which all individual children can engage, learn and develop.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational

· Liaise with parents, the local authority and other professionals associated with nursery.

· Ensure staff are deployed effectively within the room to meet the needs of all children.

· Monitor the record keeping, planning and assessment from each member of staff under your supervision.

· Support staff under training by modeling good practice and sharing knowledge and expertise.

· Support all team members with the early identification and intervention for children with possible Special Educational Needs and give physical, emotional, intellectual guidance as appropriate.

· Support all staff to engage in good team working.

· To take an active involvement with additional activities such as parent’s evenings, open days, training and staff meetings.

· Undertake certain domestic jobs within nursery, for example; preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment and such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the Manager.

· Read, understand and adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to the role of Baby Room Leader, and ensure all staff are adhering to such policies and procedures.

· To ensure all information received within nursery is kept strictly confidential.

Teaching and Learning

· Formulate and operate a programme of rich and varied activities that meet the individual learning needs of all children.

· Keep high quality records of your key children’s learning development through observations to inform future planning.

· Assess the progress of each key child. Monitor any emerging gaps and implement effective interventions.

· To ensure that meal times are a time of pleasant social sharing by modeling positive behaviours.

· To develop and maintain strong partnerships with parents and communications with parents and carers to ensure the needs of each individual child are being met.

· Ensure the provision of a high quality environment to meet the needs of all children regardless of any disabilities, family backgrounds or medical history.

· Take opportunities to introduce the children to new learning experiences wherever possible.

Health and Safety

· Ensure high standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times.

· Wash and change children as required.

· Report and record all accidents that occur under your supervision.

· Take a shared responsibility for the safety of each individual child. Only allow known and agreed adults to collect the children.

· Ensure poorly children are kept comfortable and warm and parents are notified immediately in order for the child to be collected.

Qualifications

· A childcare qualification at level 3

· A degree in a relevant childcare qualification

· Early Years Teacher/Qualified Teacher Status

· Pediatric first-aid qualification

Experience

· A minimum of two years post qualifying experience of nursery management in a full day care setting

· Experience in a supervisory capacity of delivering care and education to young children

· Experience of leading and supporting a staff team to improve practice

· Experience of developing positive relationships with colleagues, parents, children and outside agencies

· Experience of managing nursery finances, including invoicing, chasing debts and managing salary budgets

· Experience or knowledge of Ofsted requirements

Knowledge & Skills

· Knowledge and understanding of the Children’s Act

· The ability to work on own initiative and prioritise workload

· Knowledge of the EYFS and child development

· Ability to lead, coach and motivate a team

· UK driving license – full and clean

· Knowledge and understanding of Equal Opportunities

· Excellent organisational abilities

· Awareness of health and safety legislation

· Ability to use a range of IT equipment

· A working knowledge of nursery software packages

· Ability to successfully market the setting
