We have an exciting opportunity for a Active Life Coach to join our team at Cygnet Hospital Taunton
Cygnet Hospital Taunton provides specialist inpatient services for older adults with mental health problems and for men diagnosed with a learning disability. The hospital also provides an acute inpatient admissions service for men over the age of 18.
Job Summary
  • The Active Life Trainer will work as a member of the Ward Team with supervision from the Active Life Lead and as part of the multidisciplinary team. They will be involved in facilitating group and individual physical activity and exercise intervention and providing healthy lifestyle advice to support service users to focus on maintenance and improvement of their physical health and wellbeing as a part of their recovery.
  • The individual will have specific responsibilities within a designated area and be expected to work with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
  • To build up a therapeutic relationship with patients to encourage their interest and participation in physical activity and exercise.
  • To contribute to the assessment of service users and identification of their physical health and exercise goals.
  • To work with the Active Life Lead and MDT to develop group and individual physical activity interventions to meet service users’ needs.
  • To deliver a targeted programme that supports service users to engage in meaningful activity.
  • To encourage and support service users to engage in a range of individual interventions to meet their goals.
Are you the successful candidate we are looking for?
  • Ability to demonstrate an awareness of equality issues and deal fairly and equally with colleagues and patients.
  • Experience of working with individuals with mental illness
  • Experience of individual and/or group interventions related to physical activity, sport, exercise or health and wellbeing
  • Experience of teamwork
  • Ability to demonstrate a standard of oral and written language that is adequate for the job
  • Willingness to undertake training and development
  • Commitment to client centred non-discriminatory practice
  • Knowledge of, and ability to deliver suitable activities or intervention for maintenance and improvement of physical health, a relevant qualification would be desirable
