Mechanical Design Engineer, 3D CAD

A Leeds based engineering business whose site in Leeds is their sole office for R&D, design, manufacture, production and operations are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Mechanical Engineer to join the team, with strong CAD experience.

The office is purpose built for the companies’ requirements, and is ultra-modern, spacious, airy with a clean and tidy manufacturing facility and machine shop. The R&D office where the mechanical engineer will be based has huge pained windows, with lots of natural light and highly up to date equipment.

The business owns the facility outright and is debt free, when we met the business to discuss the requirements, they joked the only thing they don’t own is the franking machine as you’re not allowed to buy it. The senior directors are all friendly and approachable and get on well with all members of the organisation.

The business designs and develops complex equipment used in the medical sector, their products are sold to the NHS but most importantly the large majority are sold out of Europe so Brexit will not affect them. They have a fully functioning operating theatre where all their equipment is set up and has been used to film popular tv shows when a hospital set is required. The company has won Queens awards for industry, R&D and export.

The chosen candidate will have an engineering qualification, such as an hnd, hnc or above and will have an appreciation of cad be this 2D or 3D. The role will enable a practical and enthusiastic engineer to plot their own career path, be they more interested in Design or Manufacturing.

The candidate’s primary tasks will involve new product development using SolidWorks, support of existing products in terms of design changes including Engineering change notes. They will work in the R&D department alongside a small multi-function team and report to the Senior Design Engineer. Typical projects might include components and assemblies for operating luminaires, supporting structures, minor lamps and ancillary equipment. A good understanding of manufacturing processes i.e Injection moulding, casting and machining would be a great advantage.

The Mechanical Engineer will be practical, excited by improving an already award-winning product and company and be flexible to the engineering team’s needs.

The Mechanical Engineer is not expected to be the finished article full training and support will be provided and the company appreciates the engineer will take 12 months to be fully useful. The expectations are realistic and the company fully supportive.
