The job involves much more than physical care. I need someone who will support me to live an independent life, whether that be at home, at my part time work, shopping or taking part in social activities and my hobbies. I live in a family home in my own accommodation.

Personal Assistant Job Description

I am a wheelchair user I require help with all aspects of my personal care, includes hoisting me.

I drive an adapted vehicle which is used for all my activities outside of my home.

The appointed person will join my existing carers in supporting my needs. The hours are flexible to an extent, but depend upon balancing the time and hours to fit with my activities and availability of my other carers.

Previous experience of providing care is desirable but not essential, all required training for use of equipment and performing tasks will be arranged by me.

Personal Assistant Job Description

The essential tasks of the role include:

Personal Care Tasks

  • Hoisting in/out of bed/wheelchair
  • Support with dressing and undressing
  • Showering/bathing
  • Assistance with personal grooming
  • Assistance with using the toilet.

Domestic Needs

  • Keeping my living space clean and organised
  • Keeping my clothes organised
  • Some preparation and cooking of meals and drinks.
  • Making the bed and changing bed linen.

Occasional Additional needs

In addition to the essential regular tasks there will be opportunities for the successful candidate to accompany me in the following activities:

  • Dining out with friends
  • Going to the cinema (I have a pass that enables me to bring a carer for free).
  • Going to concerts
  • Trips to Museums and Art Galleries
  • Shopping
  • Supporting me for part of my regular family summer holiday in Spain

  • A sense of humour!
  • In my work and personal life I spend my time with a diverse range of people. Respect for me and the others around me is an essential quality for working with me.
  • Punctuality, given the nature of my needs it is essential that you turn up at the agreed time.
  • Give as much notice as possible if you are going to be late or can’t come
  • Discuss any concerns with me directly as soon as possible
  • Respect my possessions and equipment and use them only with my consent.
