To provide high quality subject teaching across a range of levels and qualifications, and contribute to non-subject related aspects of Programmes of Study. To ensure all students have the opportunity to progress and achieve to their best ability.

Key Responsibilities:

* To design and deliver high quality teaching using appropriate and effective methods to cater for the needs of all students

* Maintain minimum good, or better, teaching evidenced through the College TLA observation or review process; and to be proactive in researching, developing and implementing best practice in TLA

* To take responsibility for the leadership and management of specific courses as Course Leader including: the management of course teams and effective curriculum co-ordination including convening and holding regular course team meetings; ensuring that initial assessment and diagnostic assessment are undertaken and acted upon for all students; ensuring the provision of Additional Learning Support (ALS) is delivered where appropriate to student need; monitoring the success of designated courses within the curriculum area and providing direction, support and assistance to course teams and to individuals to improve success rates and other quality measures including completing programme reviews; the curriculum design/structure of the programme and the planning of modules as required by the examination bodies; collating and presenting course review information and implementing quality improvement action plans

* To monitor attendance, and assess student progress, to set targets, and provide prompt feedback to students

* To maintain accurate records of student assessment and progress

* To contribute to course reviews and other quality processes

* To assist with the development and maintenance of academic resources

* To motivate students and act as a role model for good behaviours for work; to challenge and manage those falling below our high expectations

* Be proactive in developing own skills as a reflective practitioner, and commit to embedding all CPD into curriculum delivery - clearly evidenced through the TLA observation or review process

* To maintain and develop technical competence within agreed subject areas, to ensure own academic, vocational or industry experience is kept relevant and up-to-date, and to undertake CPD as required by the college

* Contribute to validation and quality audits which may include external examinations, internal/external quality assurance, external/internal auditors and Ofsted inspections

* To assist in the development of new provision

* To deliver relevant short commercial courses which may involve evenings and weekends as timetabled as required

* To play an active role in cross-college activities including marketing events and Open Days

* To provide individual tutorials to students as and when required and act as course tutor to identified student groups

* To ensure compliance with both legislative and college requirements for health and safety, equality of opportunity, diversity, safeguarding and welfare of all students and ensuring safe systems of work are provided

* To interview and provide careers guidance to prospective students and liaise with students’ parents/guardians/employers as necessary

* Any other duties that are commensurate with the role and grade as may be requested by the Curriculum and Quality Manager

Essential Criteria:

1. Degree, or significant equivalent experience, in relevant area
2. GCSE Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent in English and mathematics
3. Recognised teaching qualification
4. Proven teaching skills with commitment to achieving good or better
5. Experience in teaching a range of abilities and levels
6. Target setting and monitoring skills
7. An understanding of Safeguarding and its importance within the college
8. Understanding of teaching and learning issues within curriculum area
9. Knowledge of the Equality Act 2010
10. Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
11. Ability to represent the subject area and interest of the College and liaise/negotiate effectively with external agencies and employees as appropriate
12. Excellent communication skills both verbally and in written form
13. Proven organisational skills with the ability to prioritise own workload whilst meeting deadlines
14. Commitment to continuous professional development


1. Assessing and verifying qualifications
2. Experience of assessing and internal verification across a range of programmes
3. Successful experience of course leadership
4. Experience of working with multi agencies/external partners to support the needs of students
5. Experience of working with/teaching young people with special needs/LDD; this parents/carers
6. Level 2 IT qualification
7. Current and relevant industrial experience
8. Student centred approach to the delivery of the curriculum and a commitment to inclusive learning
