Curtiss-Wright is looking for a Mechanical Buyer for an eighteen month maternity leave contract, working directly for the business. The Buyer role reports to our Procurement Manager of our Industrial Division.

We are looking for someone who is tenacious, a good problem solver and able to think outside the box. The successful candidate will have proven experience gained from a Mechanical Buyer background. You with be self-motivated, confident and able to work well with a wide audience of internal and external suppliers. This is a hands on position covering a broad range of purchasing related activities.

Responsibilities:

* Procurement of 'bought-out components', products and services of the right type, from the right place at the right time, with quality and cost considerations in line with the Company objective of high customer service at minimum cost
* Proactively forge relationships with suppliers and customers to purchase goods to required timescales to achieve Customer Service Levels in excess of 98%
* Support and co-ordinate NPI activities for department
* Maintain and manage supplier performance (Delivery & quality)
* Work within operating budgets, achieving cost effectiveness savings and improvements where possible
* Comply with the requirements defined by the Quality Management System.
* Obtain necessary approval and generate documentation for accurate and timely procurement of goods
* Monitor the status of purchase orders / deliveries and resolve problems and potential problems proactively and promptly
* Negotiate terms and conditions to win / win solutions that enhance the strategic position of vendor, company and customer
* Work with other business units to develop the supply chain that enhance the strategic position of vendor, company and customer
* Reduce supplier base via preferred suppliers / supplier partnerships
* Develop and implement plans to reduce the total cost and lead time of materials and supply whilst maintaining quality
* Maintain accurate purchasing related data on IBS and document files
* Implement plans to mitigate risk including component obsolescence
* Represent Procurement as required in new product / design reviews
* Order loading and logging of RTCs as required

Experience:

* CIPS qualified (level 4 minimum or actively progressing towards) with significant experience in a purchasing role (precision engineering / medium or high volume manufacturing environment preferred) and the ability to demonstrate competence to successfully carry out the requirements of the role.
* Experience in purchasing mechanical components preferred (plastic / rubber moulding, die casting, extrusion & associated tooling), CNC machining.
* Technically competent with ability to interpret and understand 2D drawings and match to suitable suppliers / manufacturing processes.
* Computer literate with a good working knowledge of ERP systems, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Access.
* Team player with good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate confidently and persuasively with a wide variety of people, up to senior levels.
* Good organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
* Flexible as some out of hours, weekend working and travel (UK & International) may be required.
