Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Electro-Mechanical)
£40,000 - £45,000 + Benefits

We are currently representing a business that pioneer in the design & manufacture of a range of hand-held electro-mechanical products that are used for a number of applications.

Based at their new purpose built offices, we are looking for an experienced mechanical design engineer to join the team.

Main duties and responsibilities include:

* Capture design or product requirements and distil into design specifications
* Lead and manage mechanical design and work with firmware and hardware engineering disciplines in new projects
* Supervise and carry out mechanical design, this includes simulation and rigorous laboratory testing
* Supervise and/or carry out mechanical design using appropriate 3D CAD software tools
* Supervise and compile BOMs for best fit for design requirements re. function, cost and noting implications for and around obsolescence
* Ownership of own and team members’ documentation of designs using CAD software tools
* Ensure that all work, including design files and other information (e.g. modification records) are kept up to date and recorded as per company quality assurance requirements and applicable international standards. This includes daily notes in personal log books
* Prepare and present designs to other members of the design team and project stakeholders at design reviews or project meetings (appropriate to role)
* Ensure compliance with departmental processes relating to development of designs as well as design and project management processes
* Adhere to agreed requirements set out by project management in terms of keeping to agreed timescales and milestones noted in projects plans and Gantt charts
* Support engineering managers in recording and reporting design progress to the management team

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

* 5+ years experience of electro-mechanical product development
* Highly proficient in the use of a 3D CAD system (preferably Solidworks) for 3D part / assembly design and 2D detail component / assembly drawings
* An understanding of relevant aspects of EMC compliance and IP regulations
* Familiarity with FEA, injection moulding simulation, Stress Analysis and Flow Analysis tools and techniques

* Experienced in the design and use of concept models, rapid prototypes
* Familiar with: Electromechanical assemblies, plastic moulded part design, (Injection, compression, vacuum etc.), sheet metalwork, machined parts, production documentation (BoM’s), ERP systems (preferably SAP), engineering change control processes
* Be competent in using office suite packages (e.g., Microsoft Office)
