NCS Summer Staff - Young Person Mentor
We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic people to join us as Young Person Mentors to lead teams of 15 young people on the National Citizen Service programme. You will be involved in a national youth initiative, helping to shape young people and improve communities. This is a Seasonal, 4 Week position from July 2019. Based in East Devon, there are a total of 22 positions available over July and August. Your NCS Summer Staff – Young Person Mentor role As Young Person Mentor your role is to to be involved in a national youth initiative, helping to shape young people and improve communities. Each Young Person Mentor is contracted to undertake the following for the duration of the programme. Ensure adherence to the company's equalities and diversity policy Attend a two-day training programme for Young Person Mentors 1 pre-residential session where you will meet your team of young people in the two weeks prior to departure (an evening session lasting approximately 2 hours) Manage the behaviour of the group and take into account all Health and Safety implications throughout the project Pastorally caring for the group Engage and consult with young people and the local community regarding the delivery of community-based projects meeting targets, goals and deadlines Enhance the young people's skills, confidence, personal and social development Follow the Prospect Services NCS Handbook process, content and delivery outcomes. Ensure active participation from all young people in all phases of the NCS programme Responsible for the guided reflection and learning of the young people throughout the programme Supervise and support Mentors & Volunteers Work closely with the NCS Programme Manager in ensuring all monitoring information (outputs & outcomes) is collected, collated and inputted for evaluation purposes and ensure records for young people are maintained and kept up to date Other duties commensurate with the level and nature of the post. The emphasis on duties may vary depending on the work location training, experience and support. Your NCS Summer Staff – Young Person Mentor Essential Characteristics Experience of working and building a rapport with young people from different backgrounds Proven teamworking ability Proactive and adaptable with the ability to think on your feet Well-organised with a professional attitude Capacity to work in a demanding environment and the ability to remain calm under pressure Ability to help inspire and motivate a team of young people Willing to fully participate in all aspects of the programme, these include: camping, cooking, outdoor activities, and skill-building workshops A cheerful disposition and a can-do attitude Empathetic with an ability to build trust with a team To be available to work evening, weekends and on residential Able to meet deadlines Employment is subject to the provision of satisfactory references and the completion of an enhanced DBS Check.
