Our Client

Our client is a modern growing solicitors pratice who currently have three locations in the Buckinghamshire area. They are looking for a Litigation Solicitor to join their offices in Chesham.

Person specification – Skills, knowledge and experience required

* Practising certificate
* Experience of dealing with litigious matters.
* Experience of attending clients
* Experience of briefing Counsel
* Experience of attending conferences with Counsel
* Experience of liaising with third parties such as expert witnesses
* Experience of hearings/advocacy
* Suitable for newly qualified solicitor

Practical skills:

* Administration skills to enable self-sufficiency
* Typing skills
* Interviewing skills
* Telephone skills
* Time management skills
* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English
* Ability to prioritise own workload
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Must have a good working knowledge of the SRA Code of Conduct and Accounts Rules

Job purpose:

To act self-sufficiently without need for secretarial support

To run own caseload

To assist head of dispute resolution department and solicitors with cases

To assist head of dispute resolution department in establishing scales of efficiency, i.e. through precedent databases

To contribute to the effective operation of the firm

To actively develop new sources of potential income streams for the dispute resolution department

To contribute to the marketing of both the department and the firm as a whole through networking, seminars and other initiatives as appropriate.

General responsibilities:

* Manage own caseload
* Maintain a watching brief over the other fee earners’ files when they are on holiday, sick, etc.
* Ensure that diary dates are observed
* Meet relevant quality and professional standards
* Proactively build and grow departments
* Actively develop new sources of potential income streams
* Promoting a positive working environment within firm
* Marketing and promoting the firm and its service offerings
* Attend networking meetings as discussed and agreed with department head
* Undertaking research on developing areas of law and procedure to remain up to date on key issues
* Maintaining CPD requirements as expected by the firm
* Delegating work to trainee solicitor
* Managing work experience programme of students

Tasks:

* General administrative tasks in relation to individual file management
* Visiting clients, taking instructions
* Writing letters
* Briefing Counsel
* Giving instructions to experts
* Advocacy
* Billing
* Producing precedents, template documents and other processes to enable efficient running of the department
* Producing articles for website on dispute resolution issues on a regular basis
* Utilising social media frequently, in particular LinkedIn and Twitter, to promote the firm and its service offerings
* Running and/or assisting in the running of stalls trade shows and such like
* Other tasks as requested
