We are looking for a talented Buyer, seeking career progression, to join a leading Design and Manufacturer based in Norfolk.

The Buyer role reports to Operations, this an instrumental role between Purchasing, Production, Engineering and Operations.

Salary: £30,000-35,000 + generous benefits
Location: Norfolk

As a Byer you will work closely with various departments within the company, in this progressive role you will have growing responsibility.
As a buyer you will be outgoing, have strong communication and negotiation skills.
You will also ideally have your CIPS and be hungry to progress in your career.

You will identify and develop optimal global Suppliers for purchased direct materials, indirect materials, goods and services. You will also negotiate cost-effective supply contracts with respect to local supply.

Role
• Lead annual cost-down initiatives through negotiation, design improvement identification and process improvement adoption
• Ensure supplier on-time delivery and quality performance targets are achieved
• Development of the supplier base capability in adoption of lean manufacturing technology
• Ensure inventory stock turn targets are maintained
• Negotiation and documenting of supply agreements
• Supplier rationalisation and reduction
• Maintenance of Purchasing and Item Master database
• Supplier monthly reporting
• To actively promote all purchasing initiatives
• Coach other staff on purchasing issues

Experience
• Proven procurement experience
• Ideally be educated to degree/HND in Engineering or Business Studies
• Membership of, or working towards, the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply qualification CIPS

Person Specification - Knowledge
• Understanding the supply markets for engineering materials
• Experience of sourcing from low cost countries
• Highly computer literate with good level of numeracy and literacy
• Ability to extract data and manipulate to show usage requirements
• Kanban and JIT manufacturing processes
• Ability to conduct "make or buy" reviews
• Demonstrable success in cost reduction through Value Engineering
• Vendor assessment site visits

• Contract drafting and negotiation
• Written and oral communication
• Ability to conduct meetings on and off site
• Supplier development
