This is a full-time, paid internship.

What type of Work can you expect to do in Technology at MarketAxess?

We have three possible internships available in our Technology team.

The first is a rotational internship spending time in both our Production Support and Customer Integration Teams:

The Production Support rotation will be tailored towards your degree discipline and interests and will cover a broad spectrum of skills such as querying the databases utilising any existing SQL skills, UNIX and scripting. It will provide an opportunity to learn the overall infrastructure of the MarketAxess applications, and to work with the team specifically maintaining the Production MarketAxess trading system and help to eventually take the lead on any issues that arise effecting the production environment.

During the Customer Integration rotation, you will learn the individual API on boarding requirements that come in from both Dealers and Clients and work out solutions for technical implementations. You will gain exposure to the FIX Protocol, a common language within the global financial markets to communicate trade information. You will also join in scoping calls with customers to discuss their bespoke implementation requirements. Your creativity and innovation will be tested as you will be encouraged to look for ways to help the team to increase trading activity within MarketAxess.

The second is a Business Analyst (BA) Internship:

In this role you will be part of a cross-vertical Business Analysis team working with internal stakeholders to define technology solutions underpinning the MarketAxess trading business. You will ensure that business drivers behind change are understood, business requirements are adequately defined and impacts on clients (internal and external) are understood and agreed. For this role you will need a keen interest in both the Business and the Technology side of Fixed Income Credit Trading.

You will learn the basics of Fixed Income electronic trading and how they translate in our MarketAxess platform implementation, and you will work with Sales, Product Managers and other SMEs to identify opportunities to improve systems and services by means of new platform features.

Finally, you will need to have a systematic approach and good attention to detail in order to document proposed system changes, create change specifications and input into Sales and Client facing documentation. You'll also need to perform walkthroughs to our Development and QA teams of the documented features.

The third opportunity is a Software Developer internship:

In this role you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team working on the delivery of software solutions for a number of concurrent projects. This internship will be tailored towards your degree discipline and interests with opportunities covering area such as: system designs, end to end development using diverse languages (C#, Java, HTML5, AngularJS), BigData processing, etc.

You will be involved in the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) covering the design, build and testing of real world software components following an agile methodology. You will have the opportunity to work in a Micro-Services driven environment providing high volume, real-time processing of financial transactions, through continuous/automated builds whilst maintaining a high level of coding quality through numerous automated quality control tools and processes.

Innovation is encouraged and we actively support and welcome all team members to suggest areas for improvement.

You will need to demonstrate an ability to ensure that a task is followed to a satisfactory resolution and possess the necessary inter-personal skills to ensure that effective communications are maintained both internally and externally to stakeholders, all under the guidance of a senior developer.
