This is an on-going contract role, with the possibility of going permanent at the end. Working for a global engineering company, It is for an experienced Production Engineering Engineer, with previous work experience in manufacturing environment in Production Engineering . It’s in the Electro Mechanical side of the business with older products. Would like experience of using lean manufacturing techniques inc 5S, Kaizen, Routings, writing Standard Operating procedures, route cause analysis / statistical control.
Contract Production Engineer (Slough)
Description
To provide engineering support as part of a small team within Operations to ensure products can be manufactured within the requirements of safety, quality, cost and delivery. In addition, assist in the introduction of new technology and processes to improve shop floor safety, quality, productivity and new product introduction. Undertake activities and projects to progress solving manufacturing issues, improving processes and methods with manufacturing teams, driving change and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
• To provide suitable methods, processes and instructions for the manufacture of products to meet requirements of safety, quality, productivity and cost, (eg. Assembly Method, TPM and Quality documents including training and sign off)
• Running of small capital projects (eg specification, purchase and installation of new equipment) – including preparation of justification and cost analysis
• Represent Operations as a member of the design team in the NPD process, with specific responsibility for the safety, quality and ease of manufacture of the product
• Work with product development teams to develop new products and processes for global distribution and manufacturing through the NPD process
• Programme and Project Manage operational readiness of products going through NPD process, interfacing with global operations, marketing, engineering and database teams
• Validate and action product design changes as necessary, producing and modifying assembly method documentation, tooling and MRP routings as required for all stages of the manufacturing process
• Identify & manage innovative programmes for change and continuous improvement, promoting a right first time culture, using lean manufacturing, problem solving and continuous improvement techniques
• To drive out cost by improving productivity and building quality into manufacturing processes and procedures
• Assist Team Leaders with risk assessments, working with the Environmental Health and Safety team to identify and reduce significant environment impacts of plant operations
• Provide training of operations staff on production processes using Standardised Work documentation
• Manage teams in support of the Preventative Maintenance Programme for equipment and tooling in use in the manufacturing areas to ensure that downtime is minimised
• Act as representative for the Manufacturing Cell in Contract Review meetings and ensure that relevant control methods are used for the production of non-standard products
• To design basic jigs and fixtures test equipment and tooling as necessary
Requirements
• Engineering degree or equivalent
• Significant previous experience in a manufacturing experience ideally with electro-mechanical background , “hands on”
• Familiarity with writing specifications, procedures and instructions
• Knowledge and working experience of lean / Six Sigma methodologies – 5S+1 / Kaizen / FMEA / Visual Standards / Poka-Yoke / Gauge R&R etc .
• Strong MS Office skills (Word/Excel/Project/Visio)
• Strong communication skills both verbal and written and can be able to communicate confidently and clearly with all levels of the company
• Understanding of customer requirements including application
• Familiarity with writing specifications, procedures and instructions
• Project management experience – preferred
• CAD experience preferred but not essential
• Highly motivated, organised individual able to work well independently & within a team
