Full Time
As we near the end of 2018 (seriously, where has this year gone!) and approach 2019, recruitment tends to take a backseat for both hiring companies and prospective job seekers. However, this organisation are attempting to break the mould by recruiting as early as possible in the New Year (or late on this year depending on how you look at it), so give this ad a read and let me know your thoughts.

The organisation in question are based in Newcastle upon Tyne (centrally, not 40 miles outside of the city centre!) and they are keen to recruit experienced Lead Software Developers, ideally with that hybrid mix of technical skills and leadership/client facing qualities - did somebody say unicorn?

The roles are 'full stack' and they are keen to speak to applicants with either a background in Java or Microsoft .NET technologies. You'll be working on cutting edge projects, primarily enterprise in scale and focused around emerging markets such as Big Data, Cloud and AI. As a Lead Software Developer, you'll be expected to work across the full Software Development Lifecycle, working with both internal and external teams whilst acting as a technical escalation point for project issues. You'll also be given a voice, encouraged to research and suggest new technologies if you feel they'd be more suitable for the respective solution.

As an organisation, they are heavily Agile and your role will see you adopting a range of Agile methodologies (Scrum, XP, Kanban) as well as modern software development processes including CI/CD, DevOps and Test Driven Development (TDD). Agile experience is specifically important so any previous experience acting as a Scrum Master would be additionally beneficial.

In terms of the specific candidate requirements, rather than simply regurgitating the job description, I wanted to highlight a few key areas below:

* Tech Stack - a background in either Java (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Java 8) or Microsoft (ASP.NET MVC, C#, .NET Core) is preferred, but any experience with wider languages/frameworks such as Python and Scala is also beneficial. They are a 'true tech company' and like to hire people who aren't just confined/limited to a single technology area.
* Front End Development - whilst these roles are primarily focused on the back end, experience working with JavaScript frameworks (e.g. Angular, React, Redux, Vue, Ember) would be a huge bonus, as is any experience with basic HTML and Bootstrap.
* Stakeholder Management - due to the nature of the organisation (e.g. Consultancy), there woll be occasions where you'll be expected to work directly with end customers so strong communication skills are an absolute necessity.

In return, you will benefit from an above market-rate salary (£55,000 - £65,000), varied benefits package and the opportunity to work with cutting edge technologies in an Agile environment. Moreover, you will be given a tailored 'T-shaped' progression route, with opportunities to move into Project Management, Development Management and Software Architecture later on down the line.

But in my personal opinion, what they are truly looking for are passionate technologists with a genuine drive to succeed - cliche I know, but you get my drift.
