What’s the opportunity?
To work within the Communications Directorate of a leading European defence company. The role offers the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to work effectively as part of an in-house international Media Relations team whilst building the experience and knowledge necessary to sustain the company as the leading company in its sector with key media stakeholders.

What will you be doing?
• Take responsibility for the development of media activities focused on the UK local community, our award-winning apprenticeships and STEM/educational work, and industry-industry engagement through the Defence Growth Partnership.

- Support external communication activities on company strategy, public affairs and sales.
- Provide external communications support and advice to internal stakeholders.
- Develop and deliver plans to improve and co-ordinate the company’s presence on social media.
- Prepare, write and propose for validation material for media distribution and for external communication: press releases, briefings, web posts, backgrounders, pictures, infographics, products and company brochures, etc.
- Respond to media enquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Publish Comms materials on the various channels of the company (website, YouTube channel, e-mail, Social Media, etc.).
- Monitor the company and its products’ reputation in the media.
- Assist the delivery of press conferences at exhibitions and at other events.
- Develop and maintain an up-to-date network of media correspondents, with a particular focus on local media, trade media and STEM-related media.
- Work with the Internal Communications & Brand and Business communications teams to ensure coherence and co-ordination between our respective activities.
- Operate as part of the Communications incident team when required.

Who and what we are looking for from you?

- • Direct experience of working in an in-house press office or agency.
- • Proven copy writing skills & proof reading experience, ideally from a technical background.
- • Resilience combined with the ability to cope with multiple stakeholders and their agendas within a process-driven working environment.
- • Sound judgement when decision making.
- • Thoroughness with an attention to detail in particular to copy material and with event management.
- • Initiative to anticipate and mitigate potential issues or conflict with a positive attitude to problem solving.


- • CIPR qualifications.
- Experience with social media management.
- • Prior experience within the defence sector or in STEM.
- • French language skills.
