Job overview / purpose:

This is an apprenticeship role within the infrastructure team of the IT department, with the addition of classroom training.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual with a genuine interest in Infrastructure technology to join our IT team based in Cheshire. Working as part of a busy multinational business, the role will involve supporting, developing and enhancing the end user experience within a regulated environment.

You will work across the APS business, communicating with end users by telephone, e-mail and using remote control software, to provide an excellent support service to end users and set expectations based on agreed processes and SLAs. In addition, you will carry out regular IT maintenance tasks and ensure they are undertaken promptly and minimising any impact to the business.

Day to day activities will include hardware builds; email troubleshooting, password resets, physical cabling, software installation and updates, issue troubleshooting and ensuring the IT security of our Networks and end users. In addition to your classroom training, you will be trained by our in-house IT team across the entirety of our environment offering potential opportunity to work with; cloud environments, virtualisation, back-up, in house applications, Windows, Linux & Macs.

Main responsibilities: [will include but not be limited to]:

Maintenance of company IT assets Updating of departmental documentation Undertake support or escalate to relevant persons Dealing with faults in order of priority in conjunction with as directed with and as directed by other member of the IT team and Head of Service Delivery General maintenance and repair of PC's hardware Liaise directly with end users. Windows & Apple Mac, Desktop and Laptop builds Application Installation Set up of PC's & installation of printers on a network. Creating of users account within Active Directory Supporting mobile device queries Setting up new telephone extensions. Supporting the companies security protocols Remote site visits with other IT team members.

Desired qualification requirements:

3 x GCSE (or equivalent) at grades A-C in any subject, plus GCSE English and Maths (or equivalents) at grade D or above.

Working week:

The working week is based on 40 hours across a varied shift pattern.


£10,000 per annum

Benefits / Future prospects:

£1k increase every 6 months

QA’s apprenticeships are funded by the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), an executive agency of the Department for Education.

To be eligible for a Government funded apprenticeship you must have lived in the UK or European Economic Area (EEA) for the last 3 consecutive years.
