Reporting to the Design Engineering Manager, you shall be a degree-qualified engineer, with adequate experience to carry out the following duties:

Senior professional with strong knowledge of Electro-Mechanical designs and broad knowledge of project management to lead complex projects.

Communicate within and outside of the engineering function to gain cooperation on operational processes, practices, and procedures. Working with the Design team management team, make moderate to substantial improvements to systems and processes. Contributes to achievement of departmental goals and operating plans with direct impact on the departmental results.

Requires practical knowledge in leading/managing projects, processes, and employees and has strong knowledge within your professional discipline. This job description does not form part of your contract of employment.

Main Responsibilities and Tasks:

* Responsible for the design, layout, testing and evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical devices or systems. Prepares design specifications, analysis and recommendations for presentation and approval.

* Co-ordinate the design activities across sub-systems to ensure the system design meets the requirements/specification.

* Analyse mechanical requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints. Investigate solutions to product or process problems.

* Consolidate results of mechanical design elements for assigned projects. Conduct investigations involving the origination or modification of material, component or process specifications or requirements.

* Perform product development activities including drawing board layout and interpretation/implementation of customer specifications and documentation requirements.

* Support project scheduling and estimating and manage own work to meet cost estimates and schedule

* Support Investigations, solutions and write reports

* Follow procedures to meet the requirements of ISO-9001

* Support internal, customer and supplier meetings

* Comply with QA requirements and QA procedures

Skills and Abilities

* Perform work accurately and with minimal supervision

* Assigns and monitors work activities for team individuals

* Leads by example

* Design problems and challenges to be resolved quickly and ingeniously

* Low product costs to be designed in from the outset

* Extraordinary effort to be made to rectify delays and overcome difficulties


* 10 years Product design or system development and 3D CAD (Solidworks or similar)

* Experience across multiple sectors including aerospace.

* Mechanisms and pneumatics an advantage

* Full life cycle design

* Mechanical Detailing. (Some electrical knowledge an advantage)
