An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Category Head to work with some of the world`s best loved brands of chocolate and confectionery.

This role is positioned within a standalone entrepreneurial division of a global FMCG business and currently operates in many categories: Milk Drinks, Hot Chocolate, Cakes & Bakes, Desserts, Chocolate Spreads, Cake Mixes, and QSR across UK and Europe. Their focus is to extend their brands into new chocolate categories beyond confectionery though external partners

The jobholder will be responsible for several distributors that contribute to delivering £16M NSV and projected to growth at 12%+ p.a. over the next 4 years. The role is accountable for the management and delivery of an agreed Category strategy and NSV target within year. The role is accountable for the leadership and management of the UK sales distributors, setting and monitoring against NSV and trade investment objectives, and for leading strategy discussions in key with key customers / internal stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Identifying and deliver the category strategies to deliver the Business Plan within Cakes and Bakes.
* Identify and champion the optimum channels and product ranges for the generating model, delivering this via external co manufacturers and distributors.
* Work with suppliers and the Research and Development team to develop and deliver first class products to meet financial parameters.
* Ensure all launches are project managed cross functionally via the undertaking of the activity manager role in these categories
* Ensure all internal and external stakeholders are continually updated and aligned

CONTEXT AND SCOPE IN ROLE

* Deliver Category NSV and Plan targets - Work with the internal team, supplier and distributor base to deliver base plan targets and strive for stretch targets of the team.
* Determine product strategy to meet consumer needs and manage delivery

* Analyze external trends and category review to identify criteria for success
* Identify optimum product for consumer and brand that ensures an ongoing NPD cycle to deliver midterm sustainable growth
* Identify key rules of the game incl. pricing and promotions. Manage the delivery of this viaATG meeting cycle and process and product approval process

* Assess supply bases capability & Identify supply base gaps

* Undertake capability review of current supplier base identifying supplier gaps and providing a supplier brief for commercial team to investigate
* Work with commercial team, once they have identified supplier shortlist on exploratory discussions
* Ensure the supply base has the capability and breadth of product offer to have sustainable ongoing growth within the categories

* Drive continual cycle of NPD and MAC attack projects to meet key criteria

* Produce product briefs outlining key deliverables (product delivery, cost target etc) and brief into R&D and Supply base
* Work with suppliers and R&D team to develop products to meet brief
* Assist commercial and NPD team on driving best value for our proposition with suppliers, and negotiate buy price to distributors
* Ensure brand stakeholders are aligned on the product delivery

* Manage distributor channel to deliver growth plan

* Conduct weekly updates and monthly/ bi monthly sales review meetings to ensure sale and p spend targets are on track
* Provide ongoing brand sales support to assist in sell in.

* Drive sales by assess opportunities and defining plan for new channel & geoexpansion

* Continual assess new channel format and geographical expansion opportunities and define size of prize and plan for delivery
* Brief internal team and brand team to gain agreement to implement.

* Drive the delivery of the categories via the Activity Management Process

* Ensure the activity process drives delivery for the category plan with all projects
* Retain an overview of the activity process, ensuring it is fit for purpose
* Participate in annual meetings to review the efficiency of the activity process, and provide input into updating the process when needed.

* Contribution to the Team

* Actively build the team culture by personally role-modelling the expected actions, behaviors and attitudes.
* Continue to raise personal standards/skills to support the needs of a fast-growing business
* Operate as the Category “champion” in our business
* Actively support the responsibilities of other team members to delivery their objectives
* Attend and participate in Impact meetings (4 x pa)
* Attend and participate in Senior management meetings as needed

KNOWLEDGE AND RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

At least 3 year's marketing/activity management/development/ project management/ commercial experience/category management experience

* Proven Track Record of working in a SME environment
* Industry experience in food or FMCG environment
* Willingness to travel within UK overnight
