My client a global Digital Solutions company provides Cloud Managed Services, Service Integration and Management (SIAM), Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity, DevOps, and Agile Application Development for government and commercial digital clients.

They are seeking a senior Java developer .

Excellent opportunity for an experienced software professional to join the Digital Solutions team of a rapidly growing UK services team. This position is a hands-on role with technical and team leadership responsibilities. The successful candidate will work closely with my clients clients and internal delivery team to design and implement new technology solutions involving web applications, service-oriented architecture and complex system integration projects.

Core skills, knowledge, experience required

Core skills include the following:

Demonstrable experience in designing and developing software using Java (SE and EE, up to Java 8), JDBC, Servlets, SOAP, REST, XML, JSP, RMI, web services, OSGI and Portal technologies

Detailed working knowledge of software design techniques, including object-oriented analysis and design, and work in an agile environment

Apply open source frameworks and technologies (Spring, Hibernate, JPA, Maven, and others) to development projects, where necessary Lead and coordinate development activities and deliverables of junior team members throughout projects

Ensure that the architectural principles of a design are carried through to the developed code base

Conduct peer reviews of designs and source code

Assist in the overall coordination of integration and testing of system components

Assist project managers with planning activities

Foster and maintain customer relationships on technical development topics

Participates in consulting and analysis activities with client and partner teams to scope and estimate new initiatives

Team leadership:

Ability to assist and mentor junior software engineers and liaise with other remote team members

Desirable skills and experience

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related degree; advanced degree in computer science a plus - or equivalent corporate experience

Good knowledge of current open source frameworks: Spring, Hibernate, JPA. Understanding of agile development principles and processes (e.g. Test-Driven Development, Continuous Integration, Behaviour-Driven Development, SCRUM) and experience with associated test frameworks (e.g. Junit, Mockito, Cucumber)

Knowledge of the Rational Unified Process (RUP) and the Unified Modeling Language (UML)

Strong grasp of design patterns

Strong understanding of Internet web application architectures and Internet application design (HTTP, REST, JSON)

Understanding of micro-service architecture principles

Understanding/experience of messaging architectures (e.g. Mule, Apache ServiceMix) considered a plus

Knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript

Knowledge of contemporary Javascript-based frameworks considered a plus

Knowledge of rule based systems (e.g. Drools) considered a plus

Knowledge/experience of Java-based Content Management Systems (CMS; ideally Adobe AEM, or others) considered a plus

Familiarity with other languages and platforms (e.g. Microsoft .NET, Ruby on Rails, Scala, PHP/Drupal) a plus Understanding of no-SQL databases a plus
