Application Developer

Role Summary:

My client based in Bristol are looking to hire an Application Developer preferably experienced in working with Document Composition products however training will be provided.
The primary focus of the position is the creation and maintenance of applications/scripts responsible for the processing and conversion of data into electronic communications and print.
The successful candidate will exhibit good communication skills and the ability to work across multiple departments within the company.
You will be a highly motivated and positive individual and will be expected to work largely unassisted taking guidance from supervisor when necessary.

You will be able to demonstrate a practical understanding of the following areas and technologies:

*Experience of working with one or more Document Composition products, these include but are not limited to: GMC, Papyrus, SEFAS, DOC1, Thunderhead.
*Experienced in the following languages: C, PERL and Python.
*File editing skills including Notepad ++, Vedit, Ultraedit, PFE.
*Working knowledge of development lifecycle methodologies: Waterfall and/or Agile.
*Experience of working with large and complex data formats, e.g. fixed length, delimited, multi-record, XML.
*Usage of a version control package such as SVN.
*Excellent Analysis & Specification skills
*Experience creating detailed technical Documentation.
*Experience of Development/Operational or Support environment within an IT department
*Object Oriented Development.
*Experience with data formats including PCL, PDF, XML, VPE, Postscript, TXT, AFP.

Key Role Responsibilities:

*Support and maintenance of the clients existing code base (Perl, C, SEFAS, shell scripting)
*Implementation of simple applications
*Providing technical analysis of business requirements.
*To be able to communicate effectively with other areas of the business.
*Ability to balance tasks, structure workload to make best use of time and resources
*Be able to produce application driven sample requests.
*Follow development release, deployment and test procedures.
*Ensure that change management and security procedures are followed.
*Must be able to agree and deliver to agreed schedule.
*Ability to work calmly and maintain a disciplined approach to the task under the pressure of deadlines and/or changing objectives.
