Data Scientist required to work with a multi-national Insurance Corporation as part of a team within the Business Intelligence (Finance & Actuarial) department, reporting to EMEA Management team for enterprise level finance and accounting systems. This is a broad and challenging role which ideally requires an understanding of aspects of the insurance business and / or financial services and of the finance and accounting systems which underlie these business activities.

Ultimately this requires initial focus on scoping & building a platform for big data analytics, before helping to embed that platform into the existing BI suite. A key element being hands on work with unstructured data and utilising existing platforms within the business (i.e. Hortonworks / Azure); implementing embedded statistical techniques / pattern detection to key business issues and subsequent interpretation of this into solutions across large data sets.

Key technical criteria include a range of toolsets such as: R, Python, Spark, including more traditional technologies such as SQL. Development experience with Cloud Analytical Databases (e.g. Redshift, Vertica, Snowflake), or Hadoop / HDFS / Hive, etc. is beneficial. Experience in using Machine Learning and / or Deep Learning with large datasets would also be beneficial. In addition we are seeking a strong team player, keen to share knowledge and learn from others on evolving technologies, ultimately becoming a central point of contact to the teams `big data` initiatives.

Suitable candidates will include those with a background in insurance or financial services, preferably supported by a degree in Computer Science / Engineering or similar; programming skills (such as Hadoop MapReduce or other big data frameworks, Java), and statistical modelling (like SAS or R); Relevant quantitative and qualitative research and analytics experience.

Excellent opportunity to work within a stable, multi-national environment within a key role enabling the enhancement of enterprise level systems on a global basis. Located in the City of London for a highly respected global insurance corporation this role comes with strong career progression and excellent benefits.
