We are the RAC. We are a UK super brand and Private Equity backed business.

Our Telematics and Connected Car propositions are quickly winning more and more market share and as a result, we now require a Project Manager for our Telematics team.

This is a 12 month Fixed Term Contract role based in our Bristol office, which will cover someones Maternity leave. This role will give you direct exposure and experience of this growing technology & market area.

The RAC stands unique as `the eyes and ears` on UK driving habits, behaviours, trends and forecasts. Our Telematics team sits at the heart of this intelligence, insight and product development.

This team is a key part of our future and we`re continually looking to invest in new people and new innovations - not just in the short-term to grow our services, but as a key strategic direction for both our business and for the future of driving in the UK.

The role will report into our Head of Telematics IT and will oversee and manage the successful delivery of projects on behalf of the Head of IT for Telematics and the business/project sponsor.

Role purpose

This role will include:

Individual projects from £50,000 to £1million

Multiple projects with up to 10 project team members

Initiate, shape, and manage successful delivery of Telematics projects on behalf of portfolios, programmes and sponsors through:

-Acting as the day-to-day management of the project

-Ownership and Co-ordination of the project, including resources and interdependencies

-Development and approval of necessary documentation, including business case, charters, schedules, resource plans etc

-Applying necessary governance structure and managing project team accountability

-Identification, analysis and management of risks, issues, external dependencies, changes etc.

-Facilitating the appointment and management of resources against plan

-Management of spend against baseline budget

-Planned stakeholder engagement and communications

-Planned reporting

-Management of 3rd party suppliers

-Adherence to the RAC Telematics project delivery framework

-Building, shaping and leading project teams

Technical aspects:

-Define and deliver the Change/IT elements of a project within the agreed parameters of quality, time and cost

-Define and be accountable for delivery of all stages of the project, which includes the responsibility of all project management deliverables

-Act as primary project contact with key senior business and business transformation stakeholders and develop a strong ongoing relationship

-Employ appropriate RAC good practice project management framework

-Be accountable for the provision of timely and accurate management information

-Ensure that project deliverables have been appropriately assessed for potential impact on all areas of the application and infrastructure

Management aspects:

-Secure stakeholder engagement and approval for the delivery of projects.

-Ensure resources are identified, secured and released according to demand identifying and addressing skills gaps where appropriate.

-Be responsible for the effective deployment of resources within designated area of responsibility to ensure project is achieved

-Be responsible for the management of external suppliers / partnerships / customers.

-Be responsible for timely completion of performance management for all project team members.

-Coach and support team members

-Promote individual accountability, ownership, confidence, initiative, authority and trust within the project community.

-Provides an escalation path for project team members, business sponsors

Skills, Knowledge and qualifications

To be successful in this post, you will need to show the following experience and skills:


-Proven ability to manage IT or change projects, deliver high quality consultancy and support, deliver top quality, reliable service and support with a complex business services environment

-Working in collaboration with business areas and/or 3rd party suppliers

-Management and development of people within a change management organisation

-Leading and managing complex teams in a matrix structure

-Project shaping and successful project delivery

-Experience of dealing with all levels of stakeholder including senior stakeholders

-Experience of running Waterfall and Agile projects


-Personally managed and delivered 10+ projects

-Managed 3+ projects with budgets up to £1M

-Managed 3+ projects with staffing levels of 10-20+

-Experience of Behavioral change management

Knowledge and experience of applying industry standard methodologies (PRINCE2, Agile, PMBOK, Six Sigma).

At least 5 years` experience of working within Programmes, Portfolios and Projects to include SDLC, Waterfall and Agile methodologies

Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent technical qualification; Or demonstrable evidence of at least 10+ years experience in ITIL, Project Management, Stakeholder Management and/or Change Management

Knowledge and use of JIRA

Any Telematics experience would be beneficial

This role is a 1 year Fixed Term Contract and is based at our Bristol office. The role is paying £45,000 + bens
