Nuffield Health (NH) delivers services from more than 300 locations including hospitals, health and fitness clubs, health assessment centres and client workplaces.

To meet NH’s business growth agenda NH is undergoing a multi-year, cross-divisional transformation change programme that will be underpinned and enabled by technology. Considerable IT skill is required to lead the Technical Architecture definition and delivery of new IT integration services aligned against the overall IT Architecture Strategy for NH.

Purpose of the Role

  • Accountable for ensuring the integration technical design meets user needs and acceptance criteria, whilst conforming to time and budget constraints, using agile methods
  • Working collaboratively as a hands-on architect within a multi-functional team, focused on one or more agile projects
  • Responsible for setting the technical standards for a community of developers, adding value to the whole through innovation, ideation and collaboration
  • Maintain the team’s awareness of the latest techniques and innovations in integration services and technology, through open communication and collaboration


Essential Skills

  • Delivering integration services using open source Java frameworks such as Apache Camel.
  • Well versed and able to advise on java deployment models such as (i) open source application servers (such as Tomcat or Jetty), (ii) Java Main method, (iii) containerisation (such as Docker), (iv) OSGI (such as Apache Karaf).
  • Strong Java software development and application architecture experience, with good knowledge of open source technologies, testing and documentation
  • Experience with messaging middleware technologies (such as RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, Azure ServiceBus or similar).
  • API development and management.
  • Understanding agile environments, continuous integration techniques and dev-ops cultures
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies
  • Experience with performance and scaling integration services
  • Awareness of emerging security issues
  • Ability to read and understand solution design documentation


Desirable:

  • Experience of cloud technologies, enterprise integration tools and extract, transformation and load (ETL) tools.
  • Healthcare integration experience, including HL7 V2, FHIR.
  • Experience with cloud hosted solutions, including IAAS and PAAS approaches.
  • Experience with AMQP messaging and/or Azure ServiceBus.
  • Interest in forming best practices, standards and policies
  • Experience mentoring technical staff and managing stakeholders


Location: The role is based at our Bristol office, located 6 minutes walk from Bristol Temple Meads Station
