Application Support Specialist (Linux Sysadmin / Scripting) - SaaS


£40k - £60k basic (Dependant on experience & skills level) + Bonus (up to 15%) + Excellent benefits (6% pension, death in service, Health etc)

A global software vendor based in Cambridge require a Linux / Application Support expert to join their busy Helpdesk of talented Engineers to provide support for their market leading SaaS product to Enterprise level customers, primarily within the banking sector.

The successful Application Support / Software Support (Linux / SaaS) Engineer will be an expert troubleshooter within the Linux environment, demonstrating extensive knowledge of Linux based systems coupled with the ability to provide technical software support to demanding customers (UK & European based) remotely via a busy IT service desk - therefore the ability to remain calm under pressure whilst maintaining outstanding communication and customer service skills are essential for this role.

We are particularly interested in talking to Application Support / Linux Engineers who have come from a Linux System Administration / Devops backgrounds due to this role requiring a knowledge of scripting; experience creating and maintaining scripts in PERL, Bash or similar would be highly advantageous, as would experience supporting Java based applications. This isn't your average Support position - this is a high-level Engineering role working on critical systems multi-million $ customers!

An industry certification in Linux would also be beneficial to my client (Although not essential if experience supersedes this) - LPIC would be fantastic, but equivalent Linux accreditations such as LFCE, LFCS, RHCA, RHCE or RHCSA would be fine.

Alongside expertise in Linux, the ideal Support / Systems Engineer will also be able to demonstrate strong knowledge in Virtualisation technologies (Xen, KVM ideal) as well as Database Querying / SQL Administration, creating and developing automation diagnosis and Windows Server Administration.
