IT Support Engineer - 24/7
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

This role will be extremely varied and therefore needs someone who has a broad range of knowledge and skills. We aren't looking for someone who is an expert within just one field, you will have had a good amount of exposure to a wide range of support activities including servers, networking, telephony systems, CCTV, hardware, software and databases.

This role will involve shift patterns including nights. The shifts work on a 4 day shift, 4 off, 4 night shift and 4 off pattern.

The day shift element of the role will involve maintaining and supporting the technical infrastructure and LAN, providing support and resolutions to any issues with the network, the computers themselves. Dealing with any voice and CCTV issues, monitoring the security of networks, supporting business critical systems including Operating Systems, VMware, Active Directory Domains, Ticketing Systems, Access Systems and SQL Server Databases. The role will also involve the maintenance of servers and switches on a scheduled basis to reduce potential issues. As this role will involve maintaining documentation relating to networking systems and obtaining quotes and ordering of cabling they are looking for someone that has great written communication skills. It goes without saying that verbal communication skills are a must due to provide ongoing support to business users.

The night shifts will naturally be a little quieter in terms of the volume of incidents reported. You will however; be based in an office with other night shift workers, whilst its quieter they still try to maintain an upbeat working environment. They regularly get takeaways and it is a generally all round good atmosphere, whilst still getting the job done. It is imperative that you have confidence and conviction in your decisions and knowledge base, as it is on your shoulders to decide whether an issue is serious enough to bring the business to its knees, and therefore need to call the whole team in, in the early hours, which you don't want to be doing unnecessarily. Equally, it is about making sure you don't leave this decision too late and actually bring the business to a standstill.

The company are a major transport business, based just outside of Birmingham. The role will pay up to £30,000 for the right candidate with up to £5,000 shift allowance and pension. They are close to local transport links, and offer 25 days holiday plus bank holidays.
