The Group IT organisation is responsible for aligning IT with the business on the delivery of DS Smith’s strategic priorities. It will do this by building strategic capabilities, enabling transformational efforts and embedding quality in all systems and processes.

This role is responsible for supporting the research, analysis, design, proposal, documentation and delivery of solutions in a wide range of technology and digital projects to support the priorities of the business. The individual will have strong technical knowledge in the network and network security domain whilst having the ability to work across diverse organisations through communication and engagement with peers, senior managers and business stakeholders.

What being the Network and Security Architect at DS Smith will involve:

Reporting to the Head of Technical Solutions, some of the key tasks will include but not be limited to the following;

  • Analyse technology industry and digital market trends and determine their potential impact on the enterprise

  • Analyse business drivers to determine corresponding IT technical change requirements

  • Ensure the wide area network and the security needs are appropriate for our global organisation

  • Act as subject matter expert for network and network security technologies in the enterprise

  • Support the development of road maps to support the evolution of the technical and digital portfolios from current to future state

  • Work closely with the Operations teams in analysing the technical IT landscape to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement

  • Perform the evaluation and selection of technical products in line with corporate standards by consulting with the other solutions and architecture functions

  • Design and build technical and digital solutions which align with the overall enterprise architecture and ensuring smooth transition of IT solutions into operational IT services

  • Work closely with the Enterprise and Architecture teams to develop road maps, create and manage standards and support in the evolution of the technical and digital portfolios from current to future state

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Technical organisation within DS Smith

What we would like our candidate to have:

  • Bachelor degree in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field, or equivalent work experience in IT and business/industry

  • Strong technical knowledge that includes Data Centre / Enterprise networking, WAN/LAN/WLAN, Routing, Firewall, IDS/IPS, WAN optimisation, Proxy, VPN services, Load Balancing

  • Experience in large, multi-national, cross-functional teams influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders effectively across the organization

  • Display a strong customer focus background understanding the business needs and good business judgement

  • Be up to date with the latest technologies and IT trends

  • Ability to translate business needs into solution architecture requirements

  • Ability to apply multiple technical and digital solutions to business problems

  • Possess strong interpersonal and influencing skills with good stakeholder engagement

  • Able to manage delivery of objectives in line with agreed time scales

Salary: £65K Circa
