Network Operations Project Manager

Location:Cambridge (UK) or Amsterdam (NL)

Job Description


You will provide project management expertise to the Network Operations teams.

You will develop and maintain the new Project Management Framework, both via your own project management activities and contributions and under the guidance of the Head of Project Office.


You will be responsible for:

  • Delivering a variety of defined multi technology project in line with the Operations strategy
  • Applying a best fit project management approach to working in the Operations environment and on various project types.
  • Co-ordinating the efforts of team members and, where appropriate, third parties in order to deliver the project according to requirements
  • Ensuring projects are moving forward under control and that the individual status of each project is known and can be communicated swiftly and concisely to the operations management tea.
  • Applying suitable time, quality, task, risk, issue and dependency management on all projects
  • Close liaison with project team members and stakeholders on an on-going basis
  • Work to identify where improvements can be made to accelerate projects or improve delivery quality.
  • Developing and delivering progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation and presentations as required by the PMO office or Operations.
  • Making continuous improvements to the project management framework - developing and maintaining project standards to ensure the integrity, robustness and efficient realisation of all project deliverables - in collaboration with colleagues and the Head of Project Office
  • Contributing to the specification and/or development of systems and procedures to ensure the integrity and robustness of all project deliverables

You may occasionally be required to travel within Europe in this role.

Person Specification

Qualifications, experience and knowledge

  • Experience working with and understanding of one or more of the following technology areas:

- Optical, IP Carrier Networking

- Optical & IP Vendor Equipment

- Operational tools and systems (OSS,BSS)

  • Knowledge of the delivery of complex technical projects in a carrier or vendor environment
  • Experience in working on matrix resourced projects.
  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent in professional experience
  • An understanding of the drivers for change, and the ability to design new processes and improve existing processes to increase operational efficiency
  • An understanding of how operational experience can be translated into useful tools
