DEPARTMENTAL OVERVIEW

Senior Operator is responsible for the monitoring the operating system, LINC Systems and database issues within our mainframe environment. Procedures around open systems monitoring, file transfer protocols (FTP) and print services support. Primary responsibility is the daily and nightly batch processing. A 24x7 Operation Shift system in place(UK only) 24*5 (Brussels only) and 21*7 (India only), inc Public Holidays. Holidays require cover to be arranged to ensure full shift support at all times which involves a "fair share" policy regarding overtime cover. Also providing application recovery, technical support and to develop and enforce data centre standards.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE

Is able to perform all duties within the IT Operator job description plus:

• Capable of running the overnight batch process (Mainframe, Unix, SQL and Windows)

• Monitor of overnight processing and dependencies

• Ability to schedule adhoc overnight process requirements

• First and Second Line troubleshooting

• Unsupervised Project work

• Responsible for monitoring and escalation of issues for entire IT suite

• Responsible for securing data

• Can handle multiple concurrent issues, and is able to prioritise and resolve

• Proactive in addressing technical issues, or communicating them to Technical/Management Escalation as required

• Cisco Phone administration

• HP Openview Monitoring and first line support

• System backup checks and restarts, plus data restores

• General office duties i.e Engineer escorts, Hardware removal.

• Any other duties as required

Technical Knowledge

• Have a sound knowledge of all environments, and an in depth understanding of the architecture

• Detailed knowledge of File Transfer Protocol

• Good knowledge of Unisys Libra mainframe, MCP, and Workflow language

• Will have high skill level in one or more specialist areas

• Able to produce clear and accurate documents for users and operational areas

• Unix basics (run commands and scripts, detect errors)

• Broad infrastructure knowledge

• Ability to understand code in various shell scripting languages across multiple platforms
