Financial Controller

Newly created role covering all aspects of commercial/operational finance and reporting directly to the Head of Production.
Key responsibilities:
-Provide support for the MD including areas such as forecast updates, strategic planning, project funding and tax credits.
-Partnering with the senior management team on commercial affairs and contractual matters, when required.
-Provide advice & support senior management in the discharge of their fiduciary responsibilities for financial matters.
-Contribute financial, organizational and commercial expertise to management decision making and contribute to the process for growing and optimizing production margins.
-Manage the monthly management accounts process. Review of monthly actual P&L and balance sheet, in both UK and US GAAP. This will also include the monthly review and approval of key balance sheet reconciliations, such as bank reconciliations, aged debtors and creditors, WIP, accrued and deferred income.
-Oversee the process for preparing and reporting on monthly & quarterly reporting packs, including slate, reporting pack, cash-flow, development budget and management reports.
-Prepare business plans and execute five year plans and financial forecasts and ensure that budgets are met and commercial activities are maximized.
-Ensure compliance with the HMRC Film and TV guidance for paying freelance staff in conjunction with HR / Payroll.
-Approve sales invoices ensuring that they contain the Broadcaster's required details for payment. Ensure that invoices are being raised in accordance with contracts in conjunction with the Transactional Services team.
-Ensure correct set up and functioning of production accounting systems and that adequate review, segregation of duties & approval processes operate on all productions.
? Responsible for ensuring adequate processes and controls exist for operational and other systems and that the business operates in accordance with divisional and group policies. Approve & sign off invoices & investment proposals
-Review year-end reconciliations and reports and liaise with auditors.
-Review/work on statutory accounts and tax packs for operating companies.
Required Experience
-Undergraduate degree (University degree).
-Qualified Accountant .
-Proven accounting experience at this level within a Media Production environment.
- Ability to manage teams through change and lead the local business process initiatives would be an advantage.
-Managed a finance team, had overall responsibility for financial reporting and presented strategic, financial & commercial information to execs.
-Good understanding of the international TV market is essential, including programme making, the production process, finished and format distribution and deal making.
- Proven track record working successfully with senior business leaders, creative heads, operational and financial management.
-Experience in creating and managing profitable growth and setting up commercial partnerships.
-Significant experience within a multinational company highly desirable.
-Has used enterprise accounting software (ideally SAP or Navision). Competent Excel user. Knowledge/Skills
-Ability to solve problems/draw conclusions, exhibiting judgment and a good understanding of the key issues. Able to work in a collaborative manner.
-Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to interact effectively and influence management at all levels. Can push back with diplomacy.
- Attention to detail but able to communicate complex information to relevant internal and external parties.
-Strong organizational skills and ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
-Personal motivation, eager to drive results and resilient. Ability to work in multiple stakeholder environment and collaborative approach to relationships with outsourcer providers.
-Can operate in a fast paced environment and handle multiple projects under time constraints. Must have the ability to organize and schedule work effectively and remain calm in a high pressure environment.
-Must be comfortable with both corporate and creative executives at senior management level and have the ability to translate business and financial matters in a clear and comprehensive manner to non-finance people. Proven negotiation skills and the ability to influence others.
-Knowledge of ERP systems required (SAP an advantage). Experience of US GAAP and UK accounting standards. Focus on making financial & operational processes work effectively. Key Success Factors
