Highway Design Engineer
Job Title: Highway Design Engineer Location: Manchester Salary: £27K - £33K The Role We have an exciting opportunity for a Road Design Engineer with strong proficiency in any of the following: MX / Civil 3D to join our Infrastructure business line, based in our Manchester office. You will work on a variety of interesting and challenging projects in traffic and transportation engineering, where you will assist with the production of a range of detailed design solutions. Main Duties and Responsibilities 1. Technically responsible for ensuring designs are delivered in accordance with current standards & best practices. 2. Produce designs for highway infrastructure and associated planning schemes to appropriate standards from initial concepts to detailed design. 3. Produce highway sketch concepts drawings and general arrangements to relevant standards. 4. Assist in the preparation of contract documents and specifications. 5. Undertake inspections and surveys, prepare reports and provide site supervision on projects. 6. Acting as lead designer on elements of highways projects from concept through to detailed design. 7. Act as liaison with other disciplines and teams as required on the projects. 8. Liaising with other 3rd parties as required on projects. 9. Coaching and guidance of more junior staff. 10. Maintain awareness of commercial and technical management of projects to assist in ensuring that they are managed effectively within budgetary constraints. 11. Develop innovative design solutions to serve and benefit clients. 12. Contribute to the technical development of the design function in the UK. Qualifications, Skills and Experience: Essential 1. Experience of working as part of an integrated road design team preferably in an environment involving the development of schemes for private developers and local authorities 2. Demonstrate knowledge in the area of Highways design with strong proficiency in any of the following: MX,Civil3D, AutoCAD, KeySigns and AutoTrack 3. Experience in preparing detailed designs for S278 / RCC, S38, S104 or equivalent detailed design drawings and have experience of negotiating these agreements. 4. Working knowledge the DMRB, Manual for Streets, TSRGD and MCHW. 5. Demonstrable experience of pavement design, sign design. 6. Demonstrable experience of producing TRO's, TTRO's and Departures from Standard. 7. Demonstrable experience of producing Specifications and Bills of Quantities. 8. HNC or equivalent qualification 9. Good team working and communication skills 10. Commercial awareness Desirable: 1. BSc /BEng/CEng in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualifications 2. Ability in microdrainage software 3.
