McGinnis Loy Associates is proud to be working with a Top Accountancy Firm who are looking for a Personal Tax Manager or Assistant Manager to join their growing team in Northampton. Reporting to the Tax Director, the role is mainly compliance based and would suit a Qualified Accountant or ATT/CTA Tax Specialist (or equivalent) from another large, mid-tier or Regional Accountancy Firm. Key duties include:

Personal Tax Manager / Personal Tax Assistant Manager

• Managing the team responsible for processing tax returns, meeting agreed service standards and building strong client relationships
• Responsible for reviewing key and complex personal tax returns
• Understanding the potential for selling new services into clients by identifying and developing tax planning / advisory opportunities
• Working with clients to understand their expectations in relation to tax compliance matters
• Keeping clients up to date with progress, helping create trust and respect within the wider Tax team
• Reviewing the tax compliance work prepared by more junior members of the team
• Liaising with HMRC in relation to complex tax returns and managing risk within the business
• Ensuring all assignments are completed within agreed budgets and keeping clients/Partners informed of any over-runs
• Liaising with the wealth management team & other tax advisory specialists within the firm in relation to potential recommendations for clients
• Participating in bids/proposals for new personal tax work

To be considered for the role you should have proven experience in a personal tax Manager or Assistant Manager role with the ability to deal with a wide range of clients and different technical tax issues. Experience of supervising/managing staff and reviewing tax work is required, and you should maintain an in-depth, up to date knowledge of UK personal tax rules. Educated to degree level, and ideally tax qualified, you should also have strong internal team-work and external relationship building skills, be able to help develop new and existing business, work well under pressure yet still deliver on time and budget.
