Legal Clerk/Assistant

£17k plus bonus


Our client a well-established and growing Law Firm in Liverpool are looking for an experienced and ideally qualified Legal Clerk.

As CPR Clerk you will be responsible for running a caseload of pre issue files and assisting Fee Earner / Leader with post issue tasks under their supervision.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Run a caseload of RTA files at a level to be determined by the Litigation Partner that is consistent with the budget
  • Dealing with pre issue cases to issue, including resolving liability at the earliest possible stage, advising clients on court proceedings where necessary and conducting relevant investigations

  • Dealing with all aspects of pre issue procedures in a timely manner, as well as post issue work as directed

  • Assess liability through, liability call chasers, assessment / valuation of medical reports, witness statements, evidence, special damages, researching relevant case law and assessing suitable award of compensation

  • As per the firm’s Litigation Strategy progress all cases in an efficient and commercial manner to maximise profitability, progressing with settlements only as directed within the firm’s Litigation Strategy

  • Liaising with clients, experts, barristers, third party solicitors/insurers and any other third parties as required

  • Ensure all heads of loss are considered

  • Accurate recording of time and preparing accurate attendance notes

  • Carry out tasks delegated by the Fee Earner / Leader, duties including although not limited to:

- Drafting of witness statements

- Preparation of court bundles as directed by the Court Directions

- Offer chasing

- Assisting with relevant diary steps

- Assisting with telephone calls and other administration

Essential Qualifications, Experience and Competencies

  • ILEX, LPC or similar qualification is desirable
  • Previous experience working within the PI industry is required

  • Strong litigation and tactical skills are required

  • Previous experience of working on the telephone and dealing with a wide range of clients is required

  • Proven track record of working to targets and exceeding KPI’s set
