The purpose of the Process Development Technologist role is to manage the launch phase of the NPD process by taking the approved product concept or existing product amend through the trial and handover processes to launch thereby delivering sales and profit growth for the business.

The Process Development Technologist works as part of the NPD team interfacing directly with retail and foodservice customers and the key departments within the Site.

Projects Scope

  • The scope of projects that the Process Development Technologist works on or manages includes but is not limited to:

    • Launching of 'new to market’ products that have been developed from customer or strategic project brief delivering sales and profit growth

    • Researching, communicating and implementing of ingredient and packaging innovations which deliver savings, USP’s or customer retention opportunities for the business

    • Managing Value Optimisation initiatives, both business and customer driven, to ensure that costs and efficiencies are managed

    • Responding to legislative or business critical issues relating to raw material, recipe, process and packaging changes

Operational Responsibilities

  • To deliver the launch phase of the NPD process using operational site expertise whilst ensuring legal and quality compliance through both the formulation and the processing of the products

  • To support the Commercial function by interfacing with customers on quality issues, briefs, product samples and complete associated documentation through written and verbal communication as well as attending meetings.

  • To plan, organise, conduct and record factory trials systematically using the defined BRC and customer processes

  • To communicate and liaise with the Specification Technologist to record and communicate the accurate information required to generate both internal and external product specifications

  • To ensure the food safety of all new or reformulated products using GMP and HACCP principles

  • To support and liaise with the Concept team on ideas and concept development through attending project kick-off meetings, brainstorming and concept panels and giving guidance on technical and operational constraints

  • To ensure that all new raw materials / suppliers have been risk assessed and audited as required prior to trials and launch

  • To work with the Procurement team to source ingredients and packaging ensuring compliance to internal and external requirements

  • To support Technical function through the revision, maintenance and issuing of quality and process related documentation

Skills Required

  • Preferably 3 years experience within a NPD role, having worked closely with retailers

  • Food Technology, Food Science, or equivalent

  • Good communication skills both written and verbal

  • Effective facilitation and management of meetings

  • Ability to make informed and commercially astute decisions

  • Ability to influence across the business and delegate tasks effectively

  • IT literate, including Microsoft platforms

  • Able to work flexibly and under pressure

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Strong planning and organisational skills

  • Self motivated, adaptable and flexible work style
