Business Development Manager

I’m currently with one of the world’s leading suppliers of innovative vehicle lighting and auto electrical products to international, national and independent retailers with a service that is underpinned by their commitment to service excellence and quality. Having been established for more than 40 years, they have been synonymous with innovative product developments which have subsequently won awards across the sector. Their product range is continuing to grow (over 6,000 product lines!) and now includes camping and cycling accessories amongst others and these can be seen in the likes of Halfords, Maplins and other national and independent retailers.

As part of their continued growth, they are looking to recruit a Business Development Manager to proactively manage new business opportunities with national and independent retailers as well as to manage and develop existing accounts.


• Identify new business opportunities within the retail sector and target these with appropriate commercial strategies to ensure increase sales and margin.
• Network with key personnel within the retail organisation at merchandiser, buyer, and director levels and engage in a detailed study of their product requirements and needs.
• Adopt an entrepreneurial and proactive approach to customer development to exploit opportunities to best effect and to demonstrate the value that they can provide to the supply chain.
• Develop commercial relationships with National and Regional wholesalers to exploit their distributive position and retail opportunities. Secure their buy-in to collaborative approaches to mutual targets.
• Retain and develop a portfolio of customers ensuring an in-depth understanding of customer objectives.
• To achieve all sales and margin targets set, for managed accounts, in terms of revenue growth by identifying opportunities to grow the business and enhance profitability. Be commercially aware of current trading position.

Ideally, you will have a background in developing relationships with national and independent retailers, regardless of product. However, more important is that you have the hunger, drive and passion to succeed with this long term and progressive role. The basic salary for the role is up to £40,000 and the role comes with a company car, laptop, mobile and a bonus of up to 20% of the basic salary.
