Job Purpose

To assist the Transport Manager in the effective running of a busy transport operation, ensuring that the target performance indicators are met and that the operations are conducted strictly in accordance with legal requirements.

the job holder will be required to demonstrate considerable degrees of skill and initiative in the performance of their Transport Management responsibilities and to work flexible hours and days as required by the needs of the business.

Key Tasks

Ensure that all legal, company and statuary requirements concerning the transport operation are adhered to and that records are correctly completed and maintained in accordance to the procedure. Specifically responsible for the adherence to current legislation regarding Drivers hours / records, tachograph, vehicle inspections and maintenance, Driver licensing and Health and Safety at Work.

Make necessary adjustments for absence / sickness.

To schedule routes for failed deliveries and error recoveries.

Investigate and report on all customer complaints regarding transport staff.

To ensure driver de-brief is carried out.

To comply at all times with relevant legislation regarding food safety and the chill chain equipment.

Manage the planning of workload and allocation of vehicles and manpower to ensure efficient utilisation of resources.

Continuously monitor and review operating methods. Investigate and implement improvements in efficiency and service where possible.

Motivate transport staff with the aim of improving effectiveness through the setting and monitoring of personal goals and measurable targets.

Ensure that customer-facing transport staff are suitably dressed, clean and presentable at all times.

Discipline staff where necessary to an agreed level in accordance with company procedures.

Investigate and report on all customer complaints regarding transport staff.

Manage the production of accurate customer service and operational KPIs.

Ensure that safe working practices and risk assessments are in place for all transport and related functions.

Maintain excellent working relationships with staff at all levels in other departments.

Ensure that the Transport Manager is made aware of all accidents, dangerous occurrences and near misses and that the relevant reports are completed for all such incidents.

Ensure that daily vehicle check, vehicle inspection and defect reporting procedures are in place and adhered to.

Accurately complete personnel forms for starters and leavers in accordance with agred time scales.

Assist in preparation of department audit at six monthly intervals.

Secondment as Transport Manager where necessary.
